black 17x7 or 17x8 dd wheels, prefer light
most likely will run stock tires, no track, no autox, just daily driving. Anything better under ~250/wheel than the RPFs I realize the 17x8s will handle wider tires, and big brakes, but not really necessary for me.

I have the stock tires on 17x8, it’s terrible. Stick to 7” wheels if you don’t want to buy tires.

If you stated prefering light .. it somewhat hints to me, that handling feel might matter for you, including steering sharpness. Often some do slight stretch for that. Thus it makes me wonder, why all season tires are considered. A/S like winter tires, often are softer/sloppier, hardly enhancing handling feel.
Also wondering what so terrible with stock tires vs on wheel just inch wider .. |

Good questions, I do want the 8" rims in case in the future, I am able to track the car or put big brakes on. But, in the foreseeable future, simply a daily driver. Thanks for the questions and info.

I think most get it backwards...wheel choice should be determined by the tires. First you choose what tires you want to run THEN you choose the wheels to fit the tires... Tires size first, wheel fitment second.
If you want maximum responsiveness from the tires then you choose wheel width that corresponds to the tire tread width. Going thinner or wider in wheel width compared to tread width will influence handling differently.

Your not going to feel the weight difference. Just get the stock wheels powder coated or do plastic dip...

not sure -
Others have noted differences from the stock ~21lb rims to ~15 or 16lb rims, and even measured higher whp on the dyno, and better mpg.

Looks good & performs well, and track ready even if you add power later. tl:dr - if you want performance on a budget, keep the stock wheels and get summer tires like the MPSS, Firestone Indy, or Falken Azenis FK510. If you eventually plan on tracking the car or adding power, spring for some 17x9 quality wheels & the aforementioned tires (or RE-71rs, Toyo R888R, etc. if you're really serious about track tires). If you care about looking good, 18x9.5 all the wayyyy (but you'll need to get your car lowered as well). Sorry for the wall of text -- just didn't want to see ya buy a set of wheels now and then feel like you need to upgrade again later down the road. |

Unsprung weight matters. I noticed a difference going to a lower weight rim, but it’s not earth shattering for DD. Do what you want and see how it feels. I don’t like adding weight if I can avoid it.

On a daily driven twin NA anything bigger than 225 on 17s with a semi sticky summer tire is Overkill and will remove all the fun from this car. Hell I daily drive my 275 whp supercharger twin on 17/225/45 Indy firehawks with 0 grip issues... now on the track completely different.

You might take a look at Konigs. Some are flow formed , they are pretty well regarded by the track crowd, light, and a number of styles come in the size you're looking for.
I recently installed a set of 17x8 - 40 Ultraforms on my '15 BRZ. They weigh in at just under 17 lb. I sense a difference in performance but since I replaced the stock Mich o-rings with 225/45 Conti EC-Sport+ at the same time I have no way of disentangling the wheels' effect from the tires. In all it shaved about 2 pounds off each corner. I'm happy.
