That's the right movie, but he wasn't chased by cops, he was the cop, being chased by robots for getting too close to the truth. His boss cites driving his car manually as an example of his erratic behavior, but it wasn't illegal.

Not that it's far-fetched. Last time I checked it was illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey.

Yep.
Anybody that says they will only buy used cars can not complain about the demise of the MT!

For the most part I agree but if there wasn’t a market for used manual cars it would have a negative impact on resale value.

But that's not new. They never changed their laws from before self-service was really a thing. It's not like you could pump your gas, then suddenly you couldn't....

I posted this on the "only 20% of BRZs are autos" thread but it applies here too:

Not sure what this proves though. 99% of the 86s (any flavor) were "spec" cars. In other words, buyers didn't order them that way, they bought what was on the lot.

Likely what happens is Subaru had fewer units, and they were stick. If that's what the buyer wanted, or could live with it, they bought it, or went over to Toyota and bought the AT. It's the reverse on the Toyota side.

More of them were AT. The buyer either accepted, searched for a Toyota MT, or went to Subaru and bought an MT because they had them.

In both cases, the transmission is not driving total sales numbers. Toybaru built what they wanted to build and people bought them as they were built. It would be different if the cars were built to order, then you would know the "real truth" about preferences.

I only buy new, and I only buy MT. Doesn't make the most financial sense, but gotta put your money where your mouth is. And I DD in traffic ~2 hours a day, so the traffic/commute/DD reason is BS imo.

I'm not sure why this is a surprise. Members here are a very small number of "because racecar" people. I suspect the average 86 buyer rates the transmission pretty low on the list. We're just a vocal minority, MT drivers even more so.
