Those ATs that use engine braking all the time as part of their function must cost people a fortune to keep replacing.
Do you shut the aircraft engines off when approaching for a landing? That slowing of speed must rip them apart.

FYI, letting of the gas isn’t detrimental to the life of the engine. Clutching in everytime you let off the throttle is detrimental to the life of the clutch though. A proper rev matched downshift puts very little ware on the clutch. No one engine brakes to save brake pads though. Seams people think others engine brake to save the pads but that isn’t the case. There’s just no point in clutching and using the brakes if all you need to do is lift a little.

Like I said, it's fine, as long as you don't fuck it up.

Great point, actually we don't use transmissions in aircraft.

I'd call a geared turbofan a transmission. Helicopters do have transmissions.

Explain how you can fuck up taking your foot off the gas.

They don't? Gee how do they work then? What makes the wings flap to keep them in the sky?
The point had nothing to do with transmissions and all to do with this mysterious strain that is supposedly developed by engine braking.

Well yeah if your doing 90 and downshift to 2nd you will end up with enough engine braking to lock the rear wheels. Engine braking in itself does not harm the engine. Religiously clutching in every time you slow down is not necessarily. In fact
It’s sort of noobish.

Just saying, it's one thing if your racing or your ABS is INOP, but otherwise it's kind of an unnecessary risk.

OK so you are now talking over rev misshift. That is a whole different ballgame than engine braking. You can engine brake without reving the crap out of the car and a missed shift can happen at any point not just during braking.

Yeah I was never talking about just letting off the gas pedal, lol. Obviously if you do that car explodes.

Just stahp. The rate at which you excavate your hole is alarmingly fast.
