you know, on warm days, there's these places with oddly colored contraptions to climb on that kids show up to. i'm told going there and offering them all free candy out of a dirty windowless cargo van allows you to shortcut the whole 'have a kid and sell them' thing.

i always eat all the candy before i make it there, so your results may vary.

Haha well it's basically stock (just JDM STi). Besides exhaust (tomei headers & Q300 cat back), fuel pump, and electronic boost controller. I could get a lot more with bigger injectors and a better DP. We used the stock one because they are hard to find on the twin scroll. What was that little sleeper putting down?

I was brutally forced to sell it before I could get it officially dyno'd, but builds nearly identical to mine produce about 400whp. At 21psi I was probably pushing at least 420, but I ran it at 15psi for reliably.

My favorite thing about the VR6 motor (other than the sound) my Jetta had was it didn't require new pistons/rods for high levels of boost like the FA20 does. A cylinder head spacer was needed, but that was simple to install. I installed mine in a weekend.

Lol 15lbs on a 172 crank hp stock engine makes 400whp why would you EVER sell that?

I had to sell it if I wanted to keep living at my current location. Plus being ~20 years old the car had a lot a lot of problems:

- Phantom oil leaks that I just couldn't solve
- If you pushed in the clutch too early/late while coasting to a stop the engine would stall
-The A/C didn't work (probably just needed to be charged)
- No heat (heater core needed to be replaced, which meant pulling the dash, which is a quadruple PITA on a car with Climatronic)
- Cruise control didn't work
- Head gasket leak on cylinder #3
- Paint on the roof was ruined from salt, sun, and age
- The pleather on all 4 seats was badly sun damaged and/or worn out from age
- The plastic bits for the interior were crumbling
- More that I'm forgetting

I was still in college and lived with my parents when I owned that car. Basically every moment I wasn't in class was spent fixing problems. Parts for German cars are expensive, and as a fulltime student I didn't have a job, so my bank account was draining quickly. The oil leaks pissed off my dad because they were ruining our driveway.

It was REALLY tough (emotionally) to sell that car. I had a lot of good memories with it, like wiping the smile off Corvette, Benz, Camaro, etc drivers when they heard my turbo spool, the open wastegate dump was amazing, the power delivery was great (I had a pretty decent sized turbo, so it was basically nothing... nothing.... nothing... HOLY SHIT!!!), and lots more.

Yeah I can imagine the spool must have taken a hot second. That's the nice thing about the twin scroll is you get a little appetizer before the main course.

I actually liked the delay. It gave you a chance to make sure your ass was clenched nice and tight to avoid shitting your pants when it finally kicked in.

Maybe so, but if you have dual open wastegate dumps like my buddy on his 2015 WRX, then your car will sound like it has a really nasty exhaust leak and get funny looks from people.

Recirculating is boring. Part of the fun of having a turbo is the 9 or 10 times increase in exhaust volume when the wastegate opens. One of the top requirements for the turbo kit I buy for my FR-S in the next few years is it must have an open wastegate dump.

Yeah it's just not a great idea on the STi. Sounds cool, but decreases the lifespan of the turbo and lengthens the spool time. Why do that when I have an awesome twin scroll setup to begin with? Anyway it's a sleeper if they don't hear it that's good. (They do sometimes if I'm next to them though when it blows off).
