well that s the same all over the world I guess
Dealera who already did unmount a brz engine are relieved because they think they can do it in 9 hours, but for toyota and dealers with no experience on this car I bet it is terrible |

FA has an additional baffle in the cam area, which does not allow for the same tools to be used to remove the valve springs. Because of this, the cams have to come out, which means front cover...etc.

you can joke, but I know at least 3 people (and remember that in italy we have like less than 1/12th of brz/gt86 than in US) that got their fa20 opened and closed and they are running strong still today. Your american mechanics are the ones who fucked up more than 30 cars :P

My dealer refused to take the car unless it had been returned to stock first (would not work on the car even if I paid for the supercharger removal). Contacted Subaru USA and after a week or so of back and forth they sided with the dealer. They also refused to help in any way to cover the cost of SC removal and return to stock. So, I have not done the recall so far. I'm going to see if I can renew my tags next year without doing anything. If I can, I'll leave it as-is. If not, I still haven't decided what I'm going to do. Will be interesting to see if California enforces the recall. There have been at least a couple of guys that have renewed without the work being done so maybe it doesn't show in the State system as an emissions related recall?

My car has been running fine; I don't want to do this recall. I feel that there are more chances of things going wrong than if it's left alone.

Maybe. I did ask and they haven't had a single car come back (yet) and one of their guys has a pretty good rep for doing good engine work. They're going to do a few extra things for me while the motor is out that would otherwise cost a pretty fair bit and it gives us an extra 12k mile warranty. My car is at 114k now so it needs a bunch of things done that I kind of can't afford right now and this gives me the opportunity to get it all done for pretty cheap. As long as their guy doesn't fk up it will be worth it.

Hi all, I posted this in the registry thread but feel it is worth reiterating.
It is imperative that you file a complaint with NHTSA. A gentlemen working there told me that they are in fact monitoring the situation and this board as well. You can file your complaint easily, just click "Report a Problem" in the top right corner: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2013/SCION/FR-S You can also file a complaint here: https://www.safercar.gov/ By my last count, only about 30 people have registered their complaints. As you can see in the following story, it seems NHTSA may be more willing to step in if there are more registered complaints. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/bu...ough/39475157/ Thanks, Hugo |

I was at another dealer today picking up an oil filter and they are booked out to November! They must have sold a boatload of Crosstreks and Imprezas that need this work done.
