OK, since you like the platform and you're comfortable sitting in the car, I will wager that if you buy the car and after you drive it for a few months, the lack of throw-you-back-in-the- seat torque won't bother you any more. Likewise with the "torque dip", you will learn how to work around it so as you won't even notice it anymore.
Think of it as a lightweight, quick, economical sports car - in the spirit of the MGs, Triumphs and Miatas, that came before it. They weren't powerhouses, but they were sure fun to drive - ![]() humfrz |

I came from a 911 twin turbo and in many situations I enjoy the 86 more. You need to look at a car as a sum if it’s parts rather than one single element IMO

Because NA has a limit and that limit is highly dependent on the header. The premium for the ace header is worth it. Also HP to cost ratio actually isn’t that much worse. It might cost 2-3times more then other headers but it will make close to double the power. Especially if looking at the accumulated gains across the entire powerband and not just the peak to peak numbers. A lot of people try to save money on the most important peice of gaining power (the header) and then spend 800$+ on a catback for like 1HP and 2-300$ on frontpipe for maybe 2hp if it’s catless. 2-400$ on intake for 2-3hp And then spend 1,000$ on rims to save a few pounds. All of those combine for less of a difference as the same difference between an ACE vs competitor would make. |

First test drive. Feeling disappointed.

I'd argue that a Tomei header+flex fuel is a better way to get to the same power as Ace on pump gas. 1700 for header+600 for ecutek and tune =2300 700 for header+600 for flexfuel kit+600 for ecutek and tune =1900 I'll bet you those setups make damn close to the same power, and the Tomei header works with stock engine mounts. The Ace header doesn't pick up as much power with E85 as others. |

And the dynos I’ve seen the ace picks up a good amount off E85. If I only had 3k to put into this car I would probably do OFH+OFT tune, suspension and new tires. Probably net you the biggest gain on the track. But if your staying NA and have 5k+ to spend, I feel like the ace is the way to go. You need the power to make other mods become more important, like brakes, wider rims/tires, and aero. |

Interesting comments, guys. Thanks. I'll have to look at some of the dyno charts again more closely.

Example 155whp base to 180whp after Vs 170whp base to 195whp. Both gained 30whp, 2nd has higher number, but first one gained a higher percentage. Some dynos can be deceiving at first glance. |

You still do not understand this car. Come back when you are older. Or learn to drive stick. This car is quite fast for those who know proper gear selection. 0-60 in 6 seconds is faster than most production cars. |

After owning mine for 4 years and really enjoying it, I went with a turbo kit from a reputable shop in my area, and never looked back. You basically get a car like pretty much no other, with a unique combination of practicality, affordable ownership, power, handling, light/nimble and looks. I’ve owned it for 6 years now, and still always looking forward to drive it day in and day out. Also, the trick to enjoying the brz it to regularly drive it above 4000rpm consistently, so the chassis is alive. Cheers |
