Speakerlab was a Seattle based shop that specialized in kits with good components for relatively cheap.
Had kits from the 1, .01 up to Klipsh corner horns.
They closed in 2015 though.

1/ my house , it used to be a makeshift boat workshop before the war and before i bought it it was a makeshift motorcycle repair shop.
2/ my fathers wind up pocket pedometer , he never owned a car but somehow wanted to record his walking mileage.
3/my 1980 seiko digital watch that is still on my wrist (it has never had a recall notice).

this is actually really easy to do yourself. i found a set of realistic nova 18's to attempt it on which went really well, then went and re-foamed my minimus 7's, and hh scott 197b ii's. the most daunting part is cleaning the old foam off.

Really living up to your name huh?

I’ve done a few refoams, definitely doable as an amateur although I wouldn’t say “easy”, more like “paper machet project from hell”.

I’ve got a pair of Pioneer HPM60s (Super Tweeters still work), that need the dust covers replaced. I steamed and undented them as best as I could with a needle and tape, but they need to be cut off and replaced. Haven’t worked up the stones to do it yet

haha, sometimes it just can't be avoided!

if you follow the link in that quote, simply speakers goes through the process of refoaming without cutting off the dust cap to align the voice coil. 3 sets of speakers for me, the process is working great

Well I live on a busy road, so basically every who lives in this general area likely knows my place ...here's one from this past winter...nothing special...just an old farmhouse..

yes, i have an obsession with speakers...

I acquired the Advent 6003's from my best friend...he had them originally an when the foam surround on the woofer died he went the Klipsch route...loaded them up and dropped them off at my house...."Hypno...Can't bring myself to toss these...so I know you will fix em"

I researched refoaming...it didn't sound pretty...shimming the voice coil...getting even tension on the surround...my thoughts were "not gonna happen and sound right or destroy the voice coil"

Then I found it...$20 on eBay...a kit that consisted of Glue (looks like Elmers to me), Surrounds, a CD & instructions...I thought it sounds so crazy it might just work...and it was only $20 so what did I have to lose.

1. Clean old surround from cone and frame
2. Lay speaker on the floor with driver facing the ceiling
3. Apply glue to cone and frame
4. Apply new surround to cone and frame evenly as possible.
5. Let set for 5 minutes
6. Insert CD to player and run the whole disc (it was a series of sine waves and changed frequency sub sonic to about 150 hertz sweeping back an forth)
7. After CD is complete leave speaker laying on floor 24hrs allowing glue to cure.

The idea is that the glue gets tacky and the sweeping frequency CD allows the surround to self center...

Worked like a Charm.

It's an interesting place to live; it's no cookie cutter McMansion, for sure. I bought it from the original family who'd been there for something like 6 or 7 generations. I chased the deed back to 1748 at out county Registrar's office, but it actually refers to an even earlier deed. However, because that deed was pre-Revolution and truely when we were a British colony, it's considered a land grant from King Charles, and those colonial records are kept in a different location, in Boston. I've never bothered to make the trip...it's old enough for me...lol.

Yup. They're cheap for a reason.

Looks wonderful. Maintenance is the cost of living in a historical place. Seven generations in the family? That's truly an estate. Amazing.

houses are a project for me. no different than the vehicles. my boss keeps telling me i'll never get my money back out of the changes i'm making throughout the house, and i keep telling him, that's really not the point for me...

everyone's got hobbies, mine just happen to make noise, and have windows
