You get an insurance break for DRLs? Pretty much every new car has them.

Also do you think the dealer is going to call your insurance and tell them they disabled your DRLs?

Your insurance company wont know, unless of course you are going to tell them lol.

Also, you will supposedly be able to get the car to honk once locked, the awful seatbelt buzzer when you place a phone in the seat :p and some other stuff. I forgot what else.

A lot of people like the way it looks off. I know I do because my tinted headlights make the light look dull. Wont be able to change that until I get some LED DRL.

Not every car on the road has them. For example, my wife's '05 Mustang doesn't have DRLs. Neither does our 2002 Accord.

No, but if you file a claim it is possible they would check to see if they were turned off. If you have filed improper safety information on your insurance, its possible they could deny coverage.

Since you can't do it yourself, its going to be hard to deny you did it. On my 2000 Astro, you could disable them by hitting the internal courtesy light on/off button 5 times. It automatically came back on next time the car was turned off, with no registration in the computer.

Thanks for posting the TSB.

What do you mean by open a case? You have to first justify why you want DRL turned off before they are willing to order a new ECU for you?

yes, since they are so new, they have a manual control on all parts being shipped. your dealer will know what to do. some cars already have the updated one, so they can check the vin range.

got mine in the works today.

I think you worry WAY to much, plus I said pretty much every NEW car on the road, not 7 and 10 year old ones.

I'd be super super SUPER surprised if any insurance claim ever got denied becuase someone turned of their DRLs. I know they are the law in Canada but not in the USA right?

Besides, I'd say nearly everyone got the quote from their insurance before buying the car, or more specifically they did or will do this change after having already secured their rate.

When I call around for insurance they ask based off a checklist what safety features the car has, not whether they are actually activated or not. Now when it comes time to renew and if they ask again...that's a different story. But that only happens when you change companies, so again, moot.

Principle. I can't speak for you, but I feel I am capable of making the decisions for my car, not the other way around. Forcing the compressor on when you use defrost is another pet peeve of mine, and always gets reprogrammed out of my A/C systems in my cars so I retain the option of using the compressor or not. Yes obviously the car defogs/defrosts faster with the comp on, but again it's the principle.

Lol I just removed the fuse..... too much work to take it to the dealer and have them install and flash stuff and buy a new ECU when you can just remove the fuse in 3 seconds.

Its free. And it doesnt just fix the DRLs. You can get them to get the car to honk when you lock it, fix the sensitive airbag sensor that goes off with a phone in the passenger seat, and a few other things I believe.

I thought it was determined that removing the fuse kills your high beams too?

I'm not really worried about it, I was just answering the question concerning why an insurance company would still give a discount for them. Since insurance companies insure cars that are 7, 10, 100 years old, some choose to give specific discounts for safety items. For example, if I owned a 1980 Chevy and could show I added DRL to it, my insurance company would give me the discount. I suppose some insurance companies either bake in the discount in thei price, or no longer give it.

No, they are not required in the US, and yes, I'd be surprised if they checked and denied a claim for it. However, it is a possibility if you have one of those insurance companies that looks for a reason to deny the claim, and there are some that will do that.

For me, its a matter of integrity, not worry. If I'm going to turn them off, I would not claim the discount. Everyone else can make their own decisions.

Frankly, I find them annoying as well, particularly since you can't turn them off manually if you need to for some reason. All other cars I've owned there was a way to turn them off, at least temporarily.
