I'm looking to sell my 2015 BRZ and I was hoping to get some advice on what a reasonable price would be. It's difficult to price project cars but I'm hoping to get a few perspectives from the people here.

About a $1,000 more than a stock one in your area.

In California, not much. You will not even be able to smog it for legal sale.

mods don't add much (if at all) to the value of a car.

You mighty get a couple thousand over average, but you are not recouping the majority of the costs put into that car.

KBB has it at $15-18k as a stock BRZ with "premium" wheels.

Probably closer to that high mark of $18k. If the mods and news of engine failures don't scare everyone away.

It's like selling an early 2000's 996. Too many horror stories out there at this point.

It is a 15 so the recall does not impact it but many will not understand that simple point and worry anyway.
It is funny to watch all the guys with really heavy mods worry about the "dumb techs" screwing up their engine during a repair.

Exactly. 99% of people looking for a BRZ don't want that. 99% have no idea what the recall even is. Of that 1% who do know, the majority will assume it applies to all BRZs.

Look at 996's, the '99 is the most reliable, but has cable frunk and trunk releases (eww!) and ugly headlights. They are always cheaper than a 2000 or 2001, and considerably cheaper than any '02+, even with a time bomb engine.

Buying a modded car is a gamble. You know for a fact it's been run hard, and have absolutely no idea how hard, or how it's been taken care of.

Pushing $20k for a 2015 model years with ??? left before something, anything, fails. You can find a new '18 for $25k I bet. The vast majority of people who buy cars aren't like us.

Edit: ocbrz66, The car is awesome and looks to be in excellent shape. If I were in the market for a nicely built BRZ it would be on the short list for sure. Selling modded cars sucks, been there, lost mega $$ every time.

I have a feeling his location is correct. Ever noticed how many Ferraris and Bugattis are "from" Montana?

The best bet to recoup some of your money is to strip off the parts and sell them separately. This of course is a royal pain in the butt but will recover far more than selling the car as a whole package. The only other hope is that somebody comes along that wanted exactly that set up and hope they will pay a bit more. Could make for a long time before selling it though.

And a lot of patience to find the buyer who just happens to want all the specific parts you already have.

As mentioned, if you're looking to recoup any money on the aftermarket parts, you'll do much better (time permitting) to part it out and put it all back to stock.
