I would trade my boosted 86 for a turbocharged $35k MR2 that looked like that (original post), especially if Yamaha designed the heads and Lotus designed the suspension or something—2.0T would be perfect. Forget about getting a used Cayman if that was the case.

I also should clarify that I could live with a targa, but not a softtop convertible, and I would prefer a hardtop.

Note that the Gazoo Racing concept is from 2011 and is basically just a reskinned MR-S with mention of hybrid technology. The dash and interior are standard MR-S. Even in 2011 it was an 11 year old design. All they did was put a body kit on it.
Not that it is a bad design. For a parts bin car it is much greater than the sum of its parts. However, there is no chance the new MR2 will be anything like that. IMO.

Post them! I saw a few more as well, and the front 1/4 view does have a very strong Audi TT proportioning, which I never cared for. I do like the rear 1/4 view though. The wheel offset looks like a 10 year old kid picked it.

No pros, all cons.
If given the choice, I'll take the rendering in the original post and hang it on my wall over a production version of anything based on the photograph.

Actually I don't think the headlights are unrealistic. Depending on how far out the car would be, they could be laser headlights and look like that. Man, I wish this rendition was coming from Toyota...

The only reason I say no to that is that this would theoretically be a vehicle to occupy an MR2's performance and pricepoint. If it were a halo car like a Toyota version of an NSX, I could see some exotic components being used. But an MR2 could easily justify use of an effective incandescent system to keep pricing down. I see this more like a Factory Five 818 than a futuristic spacemobile from Tron.

I just said it could be discussed since it was at least from Toyota. Discussion on the merits of some student project is meaningless.
