The problem I see with this, is that it is highly unlikely that a lubrication failure JUST damaged the main bearings/con rods/crank. The cams and cam journals in the head are likely damaged as well. I would feel much, much better if a new short or long block was being installed. Honestly, by the time they factor in their technician's labour, I can't see what they are doing being that much cheaper than the cost of a short block ?? Hope it all works out - but this may be worth mentioning. |

And I agree, not sure I want the guy who just built my engine that failed to build me another engine, with 80% used parts. |

I totally agree with both posts above. If they can’t even handle FIPG then no way would I want them rebuilding the bottom end from scratch. I got my short block for $1800 and you know they will pay less than I did. I haven’t priced out rods, crank and all new bearings but I can’t believe that much would be saved. In fact I bet it would cost more not even factoring the extra labor.
I wouldn’t stress too much about damaged cams though. I spun #3 but the cams looked flawless. It’s worth asking about though. |

They're also trying to rebuild mine. The story I keep getting is that they're finding parts missing and need to keep ordering, and whatever they order is on backorder. If my engine blows again after this, I'm just buying an IAG built short lock and forgetting about it. They gave me a Tacoma off road edition TRD rental. Guess they want to be sure the mileage costs me! I'm averaging 18mpg on the interstate haha.

I guess people were putting the springs in upside down? Haven't seen this linked to any of the recall documents, seems pertinent though.

I'd be amazed if they put them in upside down.
