On my way home via the interstate, I was approaching a two-lane sweeper that I know quite well, and this Dodge Charger SRT 392 breezes by me on the inside lane as we approach the turn.

I just replaced my Primacies with some Pilot 4S' so I was comfortable with my (new) entry speed.

Clearly the Charger was not as he starts braking before the road curves... now I'm ahead of him and executing the turn effortlessly without any drama from the new Michelins.

Upset that he couldn't keep up in the bends, he catches up to me in the straights, and lines up next to me in order to try and flex his 485hp / 4400lb cruise ship combo.

I don't fall for the bait, so I give a little squeeze on the Brembos, tuck in behind him, set the cruise at the speed limit, and proceed to sip on my bubble tea.

My strange flex, but it was pretty sweet.

High horsepower muscle cars are joyless cars. All you get to enjoy are the first 3-4 seconds of acceleration off the line then it's back to boredom again unless you want to lose your license. Any sensation of speed is removed when you car weights 4000lbs. It's like riding a 747, sure you are going 700mph but you don't feel any of it. I rather drive a true light weight sports car and than have a car that impresses on paper. That's probably why you see more of more of people driving muscle cars rev their engine... they are probably frustrated

Had the same thing with the "faster" car flexing to save face a couple days ago. Came up along a convertible Jaguar XK right before a short 1/8 mile stretch of very windy road by me that I usually take pretty fast.
So I take it as usual and blow past him not realizing I was hurting somebody's feelings. We get to the light at the end of it and he comes up in the other turning lane besides me and then takes off like his hair has
caught fire and to show me what his car that probably costs like 3-4x ours can do.

Scion TC pulls up next to me, both of us have our windows down. I make damn sure not to look his direction, based off his oem exhaust being hacked off so he could make noises. I knew he was up to no good, once the light turns green he floors it to limiter from first to third.

I think all high horsepower cars are just 'look at me' show offing. Might not be the primary reason to get such a car but it is A reason. No one is using 95% of that car's capabilities 99% of the time.

Similarly why I think manual > paddle shift > any automatic for fun.

I don't care If manual is "slower" or "less capable" than a similarly equipped advanced automatic, i'm still going to have more fun driving in a manual.

You guys think too much. High horsepower cars are just "look at me showing off"? What? Who cares if people aren't using 95% of the car's capability EVER the fact of the matter is sometimes you get off work on a shitty day and flooring your big ass MOPAR that can't turn for shit makes you grin ear to ear, and that's enough.

Why's this forum so analytical and judgemental about every dude you see that's driving anything but a prius? Let people live their lives in peace geez. Not everything's about being able to drive a car ten tenth's to work or get decent fuel economy for a sports car or handling capabilities or blah blah blah. Sometimes people just like a fucking car and they want to enjoy it end of story. Let them beeeeeeeeeee.

Isn't that pretty much true of any car, give or take 5% on both numbers?

I always find it ironic how people say how some guy was "showing off" in the straight line and then immediately say how they "showed them" in the turn. Am I the only guy here that doesn't take every turn on a city street like I am driving Nurburgring? Are there really people that drive their Twin at 95% of the capabilities all the time?

I've had my brz going on 4 months now and I'm amazed by the amount of douchery it has brought out of people. Mostly from Mustangs of course. It's almost a daily thing with me since I drive quite a bit for work.

Too bad I didn't get this much attention when I had the 05 gto.

Lol I totally forgot about the Fiat 500 abarth that wanted to race or something on the highway coming home one night until I saw this thread pop up. Was hanging out in the right lane slowing down and speeding up next to me, while I was in line to pass folks. Like, there's a car 30ft in front of me, where would I even go if I wanted to race? Worst part was the obnoxiously loud exhaust.

This doesn't typically happen to me so I thought it was funny.

You lose 100% of the races you don't take. I also live my life a 1/4 mile at a time. If you're not 10/10ths all the time, why bother living? People ask me if I'm stressed, because I have every muscle on my body flexed to maximum at all times, even my forehead muscles. I believe everyone should always be 100% all the time, racewars might be right around the corner and you best BET I can't afford to lose. Every time I leave a stop sign, I have my foot buried in every gear until I run into something, or see a red light/ stop sign. Weakness is for the weak.

But you're in Canada, there's no need for that.

Maybe your feelings are hurt though? Since you had to comment about it now, appears that way. In the last video presented in here it's obvious the Dodge was the one with hurt feelings.
Same exact thing with my situation. Nobody was racing along in a straight line losing and then had to show the offending 4400 lb behemoth what's what in the corners. The opposite occurred.

Maybe some people find it odd as Tcoat mentioned but if there aren't any cars around and it's a twisty road, some of us take it a little faster than normal because it's where the car shines.
If that encourages some boat with 500hp barge to take his frustration out in a straight line after realizing his car would flip off the road going around a bend at "86 speed" then so be it.

I take turns to the limit so that I am at the edge of losing traction to careen off the road into an explosion and fiery death.
