They went around Kingston, Napanee and Belleville off and on for a few weeks and only called it quits when the snow started flying. I don't take the main roads very often so I haven't personally seen them yet but several of my friends on the local FB group have been and pretty much anyone driving anything more obvious than a bone stock grocery getter was pulled in.

The guy with the blue WRX with gold wheels in that video is in my local Subies FB group and he had his plates taken although we can argue it was justified because he is catless which is illegal. The officer could have ticketed him for tampering with emissions equipment which carries a hefty fine but left that alone and just told him he needs to pass emissions and safety and he can get new plates. Of course, right after he got his plates back, he went back to catless.. some people never learn.

Thank for the link. Taking plates and leaving people stranded is extreme IMO. Getting a fine and having to rectify the situation in 30 days seems more appropriate in this situation, unless the vehicle is of immediate concern.

It's an immediate inconvenience but it doesn't follow you around like being charged with a driving offence does. They can pull your plates a million times and nothing will happen to you but get convicted of a driving offence just twice and suddenly, insurance premiums go up and everything else you've gotta deal with that comes with that.

True, but if my plates got pulled in Kingston and I'm from Brantford then we have a major problem lol

The thing that bothers me is a lot of what the MTO interprets is subjective. Let's say that you have an aftermarket exhaust that the officer deems too loud, pulled plates. They should have to prove it to be able to do that to someone. The don't have a testing device on the side of the road.

No cat, that's obvious and you take your chances.

What if he deemed my aftermarket coilovers unsafe? That's where I would (respectfully) be getting my back up in a hurry.

i had window tint, they just ignored it... (the officer was just shouting at the exaust and the wing)...

i think that if i had got no wing, no sunstrip, and maybe a more silent exhaust i could have had a turbo under the hood and they would haven't noticed me...

That's how it goes everywhere. Sadly, they stereotype owners of modified cars as people who break the law. They're hoping to find someone without a licence, or a gun, or drugs, etc. That's their job, it must work for them.

I can pass a cop doing 75 in a 55 in my wife's Tacoma, they don't even look up. Idle the BRZ at a light and they watch to make sure my plates are current. That's just how it works.

Literally this. I can safely go several months with outdated plates on my Forester but I've been pulled over twice now the month after plates on my BRZ were outdated. Let me go with a warning first time it happened but I was given a ticket the second time.
