There is much wisdom in this thread. Listen young ones.
In my case, I traded my BRZ in for a Chevy SS because getting my infant into the back seat was a pain. I regret trading it in. I miss how easy the BRZ was to hoon, how inexpensive, and how small it is. |

Back when I had an E36 M3 I also bought a 1st gen RX7. When I started getting used to the M3 and it didn't feel 'fast', I would switch to the RX7 and drive that for a while. The RX7 wasn't fast AT ALL, but it was just fun to toss around and rag out. When I'd switch back to the M3, it felt like a rocket ship. It's all relative. |

How about the mid-engine vette? That's gonna be a hell of a car. Hopefully they add a nice interior and make the steering telepathic. Then the car will be a major win.

Who has upgraded... and regretted?

They won't. We're talking about GM. It won't be. They already claim the current gen has the best steering ever, when it's actually pretty average compared to Euro and Japanese sports cars. The current M3 and Porsches have much better steering. It's a Corvette, they will still sell 100s of thousands in the end because old guys who play golf. |

It will stay under six figures, no doubt. I think the added cost of making a mid-engine vs front engine car isn't that big. Single digits thousand. Tcoat or the like could probably say more accurately, as people in the biz.

A BRZ/86 drives like an "underpowered" econobox around town until you rev the hell out of it. And not just any econobox, something that is N/A like a Corolla and not turbocharged like a civic. I start thinking that nyone who thinks they need to rev the crap out of this car to get from stoplight to stoplight has never drove said econoboxes...... |

I think I've come to the conclusion that having longer gearing (and the torque needed for longer gearing that comes with it) makes it easier to get around since you can hold 1st or 2nd longer and at lower rpms. That's the point I'm trying to make. I think the BRZ's power with its current gearing offers enough tractive force in 1st and 2nd to get around just fine (breaking traction is easy). I'm not really sure if pairing the Cayman's broader powerband with the BRZ's short gearing would make things that much easier. You would still need to shift fairly soon out of 1st and 2nd. |

The tall gearing of the Cayman S is one of my least favorite characteristics of the car. And whether it's a first year model like mine, or even a 2017 GT4, they all have the same gearing. So dumb!

Removing the transmission and swapping out gears is a very expensive option.

Well, I’ve decided to upgrade my BRZ... with a built engine :-) going through break-in now, but so far it looks like increase of about +60tq, and have torque come in about 1000rpm earlier, on top of my current turbo set-up. I’m not looking for top end power, but reliability and more low end tq for daily enjoyment. Should be fun...
