That work area is disgusting... maybe your pickup got clogged up with leaves or feathers.
WTF ?? Tech says, "the motor is junk". I say, "It is now that you fucking touched it." That looks pretty clearly to be the incorrect sealer. That guy is a slob and his work is a reflection of himself. If Toyota was supposed to send out somebody to tear down the motor, them doing it before they showed up indicates to me that they were trying to hide something.

Let's call your 2.5 hours labor 4.0, even 5.0 + intake, head and other related gaskets... to save in the neighborhood of what, 20.0+ labor, a complete engine gskt kit all the fluids and sealer down the road... even maybe?? It might be worth it in the long run. Particularly if there is any suspect area of leakage during/prior to the campaign repairs. Come back in 6 months with a headgasket leak and you already know what the dealer is going to say,"We didn't touch the headgaskets so we are not obligated to offer any assistance. Just coincidental." I am not aware of a big problem with these engine having headgasket leaks. Just playing devil's advocate for the sake of discussion. Subaru is well know for their headgaskets, and it isn't about how long-lasting and bullet-proof they are. Quote:
It sure wasn't to make the technician's job any easier. Send every dealer an SST kit along with the bill. Reduce the labor time and save on all the gaskets not required for this less involved repair. = Easy Math I do love to argue, er... I mean, discuss. There is no logical argument that is going to overcome that. I've ever let that stop me. Why start now ?

Apparently.
I guess that I do see purpose on steering your fellow 86ers toward a dealership that is going to do quality work and stand behind it. Misery loves company though so let them walk on into that facility that you did and maybe after that tech does a few he'll have a better grasp on it. Of course, the other side of that will be that if he does start doing a few right and they don't get smoked, it will be that much easier for him to point his failure at your specific motor since "he's done so many successfully." How about people report in with success stories and name those dealers so folks can find their way into a good dealer and we don't have to hurt any feelings (businesses don't have feelings). Quote:

Hey Guys, i just saw that my oil check tube is filled with sealant on the bottom. I'm guessing the tech broke it, but just stuck it back on with sealant. Can that get into the oil and cause damage?

No, but it's a shit job. My guess is that the hole in the timing cover was also damaged.

I’d have to look at the parts list but maybe the kit doesn’t come with a new oring and it’s getting damaged on the way in or out so they are just improvising.
