i just made it up now. mostly because i'm on city water, and all that well stuff is rough in comparison.

though i'll likely use it more with my brother, as he's on a well with hard water, and was just retired from active duty after commanding The Great Softener Install of 2018. he said he won the war, but lost many battles along the way. his dog won't ever be the same.

his next battle is a flatulent expansion tank, but that's a story for another time.
Well, I WAS going to comment on your post - but, I just don't know where to start -

Welp, it's in the middle of a three day weekend (without grandkids) for ma-ma and pa-pa.

Yep, the grandkids are off with their parents to a Great Wolf Lodge (an indoor waterpark).

In the past we have gone along (to help look after the baby), but now, they are all old enough.

What to do with our "freedom"?

Maybe just rest up?

humfrz, That was no little 6 for 1953. It was a 235 cu in (3.85 L) inline six with high-compression pistons/head, three Carter side-draft carburetors, mechanical lifters, and a high-lift camshaft. Output was 150 horsepower. Because at that time there was no manual transmission available to Chevrolet rated to handle 150 HP the two-speed Powerglide automatic was used.

Oh, don't be getten your feathers all ruffled up there old man. Mind your blood pressure -

I wasn't meaning to downplay the old stovebolt six. Back in the day, my younger brother and I built up a few of them. Here is a picture of one of the prettier ones.

We called them Ford-eaters -

OK, I'm starting to understand where you're coming from.

The Internet explained it to me -

"Ghost Cat
Ghost Cat is a widespread phenomenon among cat owners. If you have a "Ninja Cat" ie, you can see your cats, but never hear them, then this is more likely to effect you.

The Ghost Cat phenomenon is basically when you see something move out of the corner of your eye, and believe it to be your cat, only to turn your head and discover nothing's there...

Also very common when you're high, or sleep deprived.

Cat Owner: Dude, I saw The Ghost Cat like 50 times last night! I swear I had to put both of my cats in front of me to stop freaking out!"

Which brings to mind the water purification system we had back on the farm. No need for a water softener because it was rain water.

The water fell on the roof of the barn, went down the eves and downspout into a large tile container (like about 2' in diameter and 6' deep). The large tile was filled with coke (burnt coal - silly) so when the water ran through that large charcoal filter, it was cleaned.

At the bottom of the big tile was a tile pipe that ran to the cistern to store the water.

About twice a year it was the kids job to dig all of the coke out of the tile and put new coke in.

Why did I relate that story?

I watched a show about the corvette a couple years ago and they said those original 53's were so poorly built that it is one of the few collector cars that is worth more restored than original.

My thumb nail is finally grown out new from my water softener install.

So how do you expand flatulence? If only we had an engineer on board.

I do not doubt that those first cars were not quality builds. After all they were slapped together in a hurry. I think under six months from concept to showroom. But, relying on the word of some "show" is like saying; "It must be true, I read it on the internet."
Believe me I've been around collector cars long enough to know people pay stupid money for incorrect, over restored cars. Mean while they'll pass up an all original, real bargain. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

I forget the show. They mentioned something about body panel alignment at such. Goes with what you say about "slapped together".

Yep. Built by hand does not always equal quality build.

There are several different levels of "collectors" I know some of pretty much all of them. I used to be the buy all original and work on it myself level but nowadays am more of the pay more and buy the finished one. There are good and bad points to all the levels of course.
