If they spoted a leak they should be able to show the evidence. Assuming they haven’t cleaned it up already. |

Decarbon the intake/clean the mafs/clean the throttle body is a service many shops offer for a decent charge. We did it on old cars years ago, I haven’t seen anyone try to sell it in a long long time. Most shops have some game they play. One of our services advisors has started selling a “brake cleaning service” for 0.5 labor ($80 or so). From what I understand it’s a few good runs from 50 to zero to knock the dust off the pads

Publication came out yesterday about J02 recall issues. Citing another thread here. Thought you all may want to check it out.
It describes the reason I chose NOT to have the recall done. Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ Owners Claim a Recall Fix Is Destroying Their Engines http://www.thedrive.com/news/26848/s...-their-engines Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

$900 to pull those off, clean and glue back on sounds excessive. With it apart it is hard to tell where that is coming from, just as good a chance it was from the other side that is already removed.
That’s a tough one. It obviously isn’t a big leak, but addressing it down the road will carry a considerable cost. I can’t see the $900 charge though. |

When I had the leak coming from the timing chain cover about 18 months ago the cost to fix it would have been $1200 if it wasn't covered under my 7/100 CPO warranty.

Saves the warranty department from overlapping labor. They aren’t going to pay you the full 12 hours if you have the cams out replacing lifters. Trying to look at pictures of heads online and parts sheets, hard to tell if the carrier has its own bolts or sandwiches in with the head bolts? If it’s even one head bolt you would have to pull the heads off and do headgaskets as well. That’s getting closer to the $900 but still seems like a lot. Very few engines are completely dry everywhere. Especially with 60k+ miles. You would go broke trying to maintain a car with absolutely zero on the outside of the engine/trans. Mercedes has accepted it as normal operation, defining “sweating” vs “leaking”. “Definite droplet formation” is their new favorite phrase. “Sweating” is not a warrantable repair, it is “normal”. |

Hard to tell from that picture but it could have been your timing cover leaking that caused that mess. Almost all early 2013s leak at the bottom right of the timing cover near the water pump. But again it’s hard to tell from that picture. |

The cam subassemblies have their own bolts. That’s actually the way you’re supposed to access the cams according to the service manual. The service manual specifically says not to remove the cam caps before removing the assembly for risk of warping the heads. The recall instructions ignore this warning and go right for the cam caps. So you don’t have to do the head gaskets but their is heavy use of FIPG on the cam subassemblies that has to be cleaned up which is time consuming. $900 sounds high to me though. When I rebuilt my engine I miss indexed my rockers and shims and had them rotated 180. So I had the joy of repacking one of my banks twice. Wahoo. |
