That's about $16,600 US, so a screaming deal. Anyone have any experience buying a new car in Canada and importing it into the US? Ottawa is only about four hours or so from me.. I'd seriously consider doing this if the cost and hassle of importing doesn't negate the savings inherent in the car itself. Anyone have any input?

100% not worth it. Not that easy to buy a new car in Canada and ship it to the US. By the time you are done it will be almost double the cost. The same applies the other way around. It is how they protect the sales in each country.

Thank you! You just saved me a boatload of money I didn't really need to spend anyway.

Off the top of my head what you would have to pay (in US dollars at current rate):
Car $16,600
All Canadian sales taxes and dealer costs just as if a Canadian was buying the car. $2,264
US duty (since the car was made in Japan) Around 6% of the total cost including Canadian taxes and fees $1,130
NY sales tax looks to be around 8% so $1,300
Brokerage, import fees, permits, etc be a conservative $2,000

So now we are up to around $23,000 USD. Not the double I thought but still not worth the total hassle it would be. The whole system is set up to prevent people just popping across the border and buying cars for protection of the industry and so each government gets all the cash they feel they deserve. Now, if you lved here for a while and had a car you wanted to take back you can save most of those costs. But if you live here and get paid in Canadian dollars then the exchange rate does not mean anything anymore and the car would cost more to buy in the first place.
