Engine Block Damage (Minor) Repairable?
It's all in the title.
The oil passage entrance is a bit marred to say the least. I am betting I can rebuild the entrance with some good ole JB weld. But it must be precise. This is my plan, haven't done it yet but I am going to give it a shot. But as always I want to reach out to other folks to get a different perspective and possibly uncover some information I didn't know before. Mine is broke, the other is not. https://drive.google.com/file/d/12Vx...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LHB...ew?usp=sharing I hope these images show up, been having trouble with that. Thank you. Last edited by Aphaux; 03-15-2019 at 06:12 PM. |

I'm not getting the context of those pictures. there's no coolant routed through the timing cover.

I'm not seeing the direct comparison in the two pictures. -

The picture looks odd because the case half is split. The center passage with the oring is what OP is talking about.
If you have the case half split apart already it may be worth taking it in to have it welded, then trying to grind it back out to the original shape. I don't like the idea of JB welding anything aluminum that sees a lot of differential heating/cooling. |

Oh, that's the input to the main oil gallery. I agree with NoHaveMSG. Definitely not a place to fool around. If you want to save the block, get it built back up and rebored/resurfaced.
Was there other damage to the block? Better make sure. Look especially where the impact against the thrust bearings would be dissipated.

This being my first encounter with engine block repair I wasn't sure how to approach it. Whether to trust ole JB or if there was hope for a weld-n-grind fix. I do have a replacement engine so no sweat there. |

Good luck with it. Keep us posted.
BTW, if you're in the Portland metro area, I'm right across the river. I know a guy who knows a guy...
