Someplace around home I have a picture of a fuel tank on a US Army 5 ton multifueler truck. It has a line painted about two inches down which says "DO NO FILL ABOVE THIS POINT". Now there was no possible way you can either physically look into or insert anything into that tank to see how far the fuel is. It was funny enough that I actually took a picture back in the day when you had to use film and hardly ever took pictures.

We just filled ours to where the green met the purple -
