If you're doing the TOB, you might as well do the clutch too. The whole job can be done by any competent mechanic and isn't particularly difficult and doesn't require any unique tools.
Texas Track works, G Speed, PRT Performance, or Doghouse Performance can all do it if you want a performance shop; however, if you have or know of an independent mechanic that is trustworthy and competent, they can do the work without any problems. |

Has anyone dealt with Growler Motor Labs (formerly known as Cobb of Plano) with Installing front pipes on their Subaru’s?
I want to bring my BRZ in to replace the stock overpipe with a Tanabe overpipe, stock frontpipe with a Megan Racing catless but resonated frontpipe, and lastly stock exhaust with Invidia N1 dual exhaust system. They said they can’t install the frontpipe because it’s catless? But anyone that knows the BrZ, knows it has 2 cats. I’m not replacing or upgrading the header system. So as long as I still have 1 cat I am still legal as far as catalytic converter requirement correct? It’s weird because everyone I know with a WRX or BRz/FRS has a catless front pipe. Any input? |

Probably the law is written that they as a shop can not remove ANY cat from a street vehicle or “tamper” with any emissions device.
The exhaust is really easy to work on. I hear the overpipe can be tricky. Maybe a buddy with some beer and a wrench could assist?? |

You'd be better off with a catless header and a high flow catted front pipe (almost all the power gains is from the catless header). The exhaust isn't too tough to do, I did mine in the parking lot with jack stands (just remember to wd40 the exhaust hangers, and some setups have a couple of bolts that can be a pain to reach). I installed a full exhaust on my old WRX solo in my apartment parking lot, I had to use the floor jack as an extra set of hands (along with a leg) to mount it all. Exhausts are just pipes, the only way to screw up is to not tighten everything and then you smell exhaust, get back under the car, and tighten that shit down. If you aren't doing headers, I wouldn't do anything more than just the mufflers since your only gains will be in sound. You're looking at a morning/afternoons worth of work (2-3hrs depending on how many beers you drink while doing it), an extra set of hands makes it easy but it can be done solo without any real problems. |

Has anyone had any issues with TX emissions inspections with a catless front pipe in the DFW area?

The inspections in Tarrant county (where I live) are an OBDII test. I've got a catless header and a high flow catted front pipe and haven't had any issues with inspections (basically as long as you don't have a CEL you're usually good to go).

I have a catless front pipe, but stock header and i have zero problems passing inspection. Also, the cat on stock front pipe isnt even monitored so it doesnt matter if you remove it. As far as i know our inspections are done with an ODBII and they just check to make sure theres no CELs or codes.

has anyone sent their car into a dealership for the recall? I'm really doubtful of toyota techs in our area. (valve spring issue)
