The new Supra is really disappointing, in the $50k price point, you can get a Corvette if you want a car lighter, or a GT350 if you just want a monstrous track car. Hell, you can 2JZ swap an 86 and call it an 86 Supra if you want, and still be several hundred pounds lighter. Here's an overall size specs comparison:
2020 Supra: Weight: 3,397lbs Wheelbase: 97.2 inches Length: 172.5 inches Width: 73 inches Height: 51 inches 2017 86: Weight: 2,774lbs Wheelbase: 102.5 inches Length: 166.9 inches Width: 69.9 inches Height: 50.6 inches Amazingly, the 86 is still the lower car, I thought the Supra would at least have the lower CoG. The 86 is still the far better buy. For a few grand, you get a more powerful car in the form of boost or an engine swap, just as good a looking car (objectively), for at least $15k-20k less. I was genuinely considering buying the new Supra under two conditions. 1. It was priced closer to a $40k starting point. 2. It was offered in a manual. Neither point was met, so I don't buy. Simple as that. At the crowded price point of $50k, you can buy a new base Corvette Stingray, have more power, less weight, and a lower car with a removable targa top. Or you can buy a GT350, have 200hp more than the Supra and almost 100 more than the Corvette, and have a total track monstrosity. |

Exterior design is pretty smart looking. A little more aggressive than I'd like, but still looks sharp. The BMW driveline, however, is a total deal-killer for me. Toyota should've made sure the platform could support the V35A, and continued developing it for more brand identity. And being auto-only is just laughable.

Does it still after you include factory optioned TRD lowering springs? I doubt it.
Where do you find this information? All I can find is Toyota stating it has a "low center of gravity". I see no number attached to that, our car sits lower on stock ride height, and most of us put springs or coils, further lowering that number. I will say, the Supra is a gorgeous car, it's a shame it wasn't marketed towards the right audience, car enthusiasts wanted a Supra, one they could afford, one they could actually drive and row gears in, this car completely misses its target audience. To make matters worse, BMW is trying to shit on the Supra, saying the Z4 is faster, to further the Z4 sales in exchange for Supra sales. That's a pretty scumbag move. I'm not a fan of Toyota's partnership with Subaru either but at least it's a seamless partnership with neither trying to 1-up the other. |

It's not always about the power as we know regarding the 86. Let's wait for the driving impressions from R Pobst, C Harris, etc. It may be an awesome car for being 50-55k. The BMW version is that much for the 4 cyl 2.0
I paid 16k for a very light car with a manual and RWD with 19k miles on it so I'll have a hard time rationalizing 55k for something heavier with an automatic. |

The Supra on the other hand, straight up loses to the C7 Corvette, which makes 120hp more while weighting 200lbs less, the Corvette is also lower, offered in a manual, and a targa top. The Supra would probably perform amazingly for a car in the $40k price class, but at $50k, it auto-loses to the GT350 and the Corvette Stingray. |
