No regret signing up to buy the 86, but that is a good deal for what you are getting from Subaru. Also, you will be waiting a LONG time for your BRZ if the wait list for the 86 is anything to go by
By any chance do you know how much it is to order the 86 to the states?

Seems like if you bring the BRZ up to GTS spec you will be paying $320 more (taking into consideration free servicing for the BRZ).

First time I've heard someone say they want to import a car from Aus to the US lol. Well the price for a high spec 86 (GTS) manual is $35500 (not including any taxes) so including freight it will probably cost you close to $40k USD? Btw you do realise it's right hand drive down here?

He wouldn't be able to register it for road use even if it was wrong side drive.

It would seem, elsewhere in the world there are the two specs of GT86...and 1 spec BRZ....while here we get one spec FR-S and 2 spec BRZ?

Looking forward to having a look myself. I concur, Dan from Penrith Subaru is a great bloke, dealt with him many times before when i had my own business.

Now to the nitty gritty, so BRZ is a little cheaper than the 86 GTS, interesting when you add up the cost of the missing extras i think you'll find the 86 actually works out cheaper to buy when you compare apples for apples and will most likely be cheaper to own in the long term, particularly after the Subaru free servicing period has expired - would be very interesting to see how much the BRZ costs to service then.

Plus with the 86 GT & GTS you get the floor mats and boot liner included in the RRP.

I spoke to a Subaru dealer and he reckons that servicing will be of similar costs to an Impreza which generally costs about 300 odd dollars.

Toyota on the other hand, if you compare service costs to a late model Celica, costs are around the 200 dollar mark.

Subaru does not charge extra for Metallic paint, saving $400 + Which is good if you get anything other than red. I'm going the BRZ, because i have no desire for the sat nav, or the premium seats. i quite like the standard seats in the BRZ.

Regards the boot liner, does anyone know what the boot will look like, if you do not opt for the carpet? Dealer could not answer that yesterday. Got a feeling its just the spare sitting there.

I wonder about the boot liner as well.

I hope its just means you get a rubber one same as GT, but it wouldn't really worry me.

<crosses finger> I want one!

Can't speak for the BRZ, but the 86 has a semi rigid plastic boot liner with an embossed/raised cross hatch pattern. The liner is fitted to cover the full size spare, which sits proud by about 3-4 inches into the boot.

Not deluxe, but fairly practical for the outdoorsy types.

Yes, i saw the one in the 86. I think i prefer the plastic, easier to clean. Wonder if you can get it from Toyota on its own. There is also no mention of mud flaps on the BRZ. Bit of a must have for dirt roads.

I accounted for the metallic paint - so it's a extra $750 for the red BRZ when compared to a GTS.
