Resonator or muffler delete?
For a better and louder sound on my GT86, is it better to delete the resonator, muffler or both? Do y’all know the pros and cons about it?? What do y’all recommend?

(jest ah messen wich ya). What exhaust modifications (if any) have you done so far? Is your objective for your exhaust just sound? If you want a bit more power, ya need to put on an aftermarket header and get a tune. If you are just interested in modifying the sound, the easiest and most cost effective strategy is to go with an axle back or cat back muffler replacement. I have the Nameless axle back with 2.5" piping and 5" mufflers on my 2013, and wouldn't want it to be any louder. https://shop.namelessperformance.com...paign=products Be sure to check with them to see if this will fit your 2017. Come back. humfrz |

Removing the muffler will have a profound sound increase over cutting the resonator out.
Scream into your hand with a latex glove on it. Quiet, right? Now remove the glove, and scream into your hand. Quiet, right? Now remove your hand and scream. The glove is the resonator, your hand is the muffler. |

I had a muffler delete with dual tips. Loved it. No rasp at all. I've seen videos of deleting both muffler and resonator and it's a bit too raspy for my taste. Just a muffler delete is perfect in my opinion if you only want sound. I had to take mine off because I want catless headers so it would've been too loud without mufflers also.

I would recommend you start with a header and tune and work your way back exhasut if you go catless headers.

Rice it out bro.
Come back when the cops pop you for loud exhaust, then ask if anyone has oem exhaust, cause you threw away yours.

I'm in california too but I live in a rural area. Freedom is still allowed here unlike the rest of this state. Cops are actually good people around my neighborhood. Last edited by Tangizdope; 01-02-2019 at 12:09 AM. |

Generally a muffler will affect volume and a resonator will affect tone.
Delete the muffler and the car gets louder, but now you'll have some rasp to deal with. A bigger resonator can change the tone from raspy to deep, but you'd need a very large resonator (like OEM) to eliminate the rasp of a muffler delete IMO. But I think these things are best learned on your own. You should get a used muffler delete kit and see if it's even your thing. I had a muffler delete kit for a little bit, so I understand the urge to get one when it's so cheap and the car actually sounds quite good with it. I personally like a slightly smaller muffler than stock with a slightly smaller resonator. Lots of aftermarket catbacks in this configuration. |

I started with a Berk dual tip muffler delete. Sounded and looked great. If you drive casually/normally, it really isn't that loud. It's only loud when going WOT or in the upper end of the RPMs. I recently got a used Nameless 5" mufflers axle-back as I wanted something with a deeper tone and a bit quieter. Oddly enough, the Nameless sounds like it is louder between 2k-3k rpm compared to the Berk muffler delete, but is quieter everywhere else. I love the deep tone of it.
Since you said, "better and louder sound," you might be happy with a muffler delete. I'm sure someone at your local meet is bound to have one. I say try to find someone and have them give you a ride in their car to see if it is something you would like. |

Just unbolt the muffler.
That'll be about 95% close to a muffler delete. |
