But you at least knew they existed prior to the visit right? I am sure that many or even most people had not seen one in real life when they bought them in 13. My entire knowledge of them was an article about the concept back in 09. And we all know how accurate those things can be in what really happens. I didn't even know they actually built the car. This is one reason I always chuckle when people here assume that everybody in the general population knows all about these cars. I am a car guy and didn't know they existed so why should Joey's great aunt know all about them?

Lol so I was paying some attention to media around the 86 in 2011 and 2012. By the end of senior year I needed one bad. I did wind up buying the first one I saw in person after test driving it then dreaming of it for a week.

The only reason I knew they existed was an old racing buddy of mine showed me a Road and Track video on his phone one day while we were having lunch. I had spent about 2 years looking at NSX's and Lotus', but just couldn't pull the trigger since I knew neither one would really work well as a weekend getaway car with the wife. So I took the wife to the dealer on a Friday night on a whim, and came home with the car.

How is Joey's great aunt these days. Is she still in that abusive relationship with Enzo the roofer? That guy does not treat her very good and I tell you what,
some day Esmeralda (her nosy rear neighbor) is going to get her soon to be freed from jail cousin Balki Bartokomous and teach Enzo a lesson or two.

The first time I had an up close look at the twins was summer 2017 at a local dealer. There was a pair side by side in the outside lot. They looked very different in detail, probably FRS vs 86.

Early 2018, all the dealers were trying to clear their 2017 backlog. An 86, same color as the one from summer 2017, appeared suddenly at a prominent place in the dealer lot. I asked about it and was told it's an auto. I said this color but no auto please. They say sure, there is one exactly like that in the downstairs stash. The rest is history.

One fact came out while talking terms: it had been a long term demo that was registered in about the same month I saw the pair in summer of 2017. So this could be the same one I saw in 2017 and I might have actually bought the first 86 I had a close look at.

DUDE! Enzo was killed in a freak aardvark herding accident a couple of months ago. You need to be more careful when talking shit about people since now everybody says he treated her like an angel.

Based on the number of people that have stopped me getting in/out of my car since I bought it a few months ago and asked me wtf it was and the percentage of people who say wtf is that? when I say I own a Toyota 86, I'd say a large portion of the public has no idea that this car exists. People are always shocked that there is a Toyota that they didn't know exists since the camry, corolla, avalon, tacoma, etc are all so mass produced and in your face all the time. Some toyota dealers don't even have them on their lots and the sales people don't know anything about them. This makes owning it all the more fun though.

Yeah I drove three of these cars in two days. One was stick the other had some body work issues and then coilovers that were set way too low at the time, and then this one with just the TRD sway bars was almost perfect for what o wanted as a daily. I think these cars go for a bit more overe here next to D.C. though. I got mine for 15k even after all the taxes and what not with 20k miles on it. Now I'm debating on selling my Miata because I like this more than I thought I would haha.
