(if I need to) so just need quick small house work stuff which 12v will be efficient enough for.

So if anyone have any feedback on Milwaukee or Bosch, I’m all ears.

Both good. I'm partial to Bosch, mostly because of their scroll saws and routers.

Also consider which 'ecosystem' has more useful options in a 12v.

I've stuck with 18v Ryobi (usually after-holidays specials) because they're good enough on average. I have better (non-battery) tools where precision is needed.

True, but just prefer not to buy & throw away in few month. Having decent quality power tools doesn’t hurt imo. Also I can use impact wrench for autox season.

Yeah, my step-dad do have Ryobi 18v and they’re great drill. Just I’m hearing their quality have dropped and not as good anymore... so I’m kinda scared to buy em.

Hey, speaking of batteries, any of you guys ever have cells replaced in LiPo battery packs? I have an 18V drill with both packs that finally gave up the ghost. I went back to my thirty-year-old Craftsman.

My Ryobi corded hammer drill is from the late 80's and Made in Japan (been using it since elementary school). Nothing like the garbage they sell now. Same with Makita only their old corded power Made in Japan tools are any good IMO.

I have a Festool 18V cordless drill (aka the poser brand supposedly for wood work) because it has this really wicked stepper dial for digital torque adjustment and I haven't come across another drill with such precision. The price is ridiculous tho.

I also have a Bosch power screwdriver (the cylindrical one that pivots) and the power slider is a POS even at the lowest setting it can strip screwheads. I gave this to my GF to use for simple stuff around the house but she always end up using the hand screwdriver.

If you want a nice German cordless power drill try Fein or Metabo.

BTW I've never had an impact before so can't comment on that. I think they are too powerful for what they are.

I would go with Milwaukee rather than Bosch.

I think you can just go buy a new LiPo battery pack at Lowe's?

I've seen those new LiPo chargers even have a cooling fan blowing at the battery while charging.

We still have independent hardware stores around Toronto where you can buy real German and Japanese tools.

Might as well throw mine away now. I'd never be able to use it without thinking of what I'm missing.

Talking about tools I just bought a 2 dollar litter picker from the dollar store to extract leafs from the BRZ front bumper intake area. Guess you guys never have this problem with the FRS.

Everytime I take the car into the shop I would ask the mechanic to undo the 3 bolts holding the front under panel to rid of leafs.

If that's the case, you should consider purchasing a Ridgid through Home Depot. If you purchase them through HD and register them with Ridgid they come with lifetime warranties including the battery. They are a little more expensive, but they are always running deals on them and are pretty stout tools.

I've pretty much replaced all my old battery powered tools with them as the batteries have given up the ghost.

I read that on Home Depot site, Ridgid do lifetime warranty and that’s pretty good... especially these day in age having lifetime warranty is a rare thing.

How long does those battery last anyways? 2~4yrs?

It depends on usage of course, and Lithium Ion batteries have a better lifespan then old NiCad batteries which develop memory quickly if not regularly cycled.

I've had my tools a couple of years and the batteries are as strong as the day I bought them but for what they charge for batteries, I'm glad to have the guarantee.

The tools I have are a standard drill, impact drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, palm drill, belt sander, angle grinder, and a couple of lights.

The belt sander will go through a battery pretty quickly before recharge but the others can last for days of relatively moderate use without recharging.

Hear me out.
  1. a 20 minute poo a day, 5 days a week for 20 years would total out to 104,000 minutes/1733 hours/216 8 hour shifts
  2. An average of 1.5 hours of appointments per month would be 21600 minutes/ 360 hours / 45 8 hour shifts
  3. Lunch break of 1 hour is 312,000 minutes / 5200 hours/ 650 8 hour shifts
  4. Most of us don’t work weekends so that is another / 2080 shifts off
  5. and let us remember that sweet 30 days a year / 600 shifts
  6. Which totals out to be 3591/ 7300 "days" of work throughout your career where you aren’t actually working.
  7. Final point, you get almost a free years salary for shitting, keep your chin up
Edited to put in per month for appointments
