Best of luck. Be all that you can...wait, that isn't the coast guard. Do they have a recruiting slogan?

There's lots of the wet stuff up here.
A friend used to be stationed up on the spit at Port Angeles.
He got transferred out to the east coast a couple years ago.
At least the water is slightly warmer.

Best of ...

Get a bigger pain killer pill!

OR, wrap your legs in ice packs, get a quart of vodka and a quart of tomato juice, mix equal parts and drink till you see two of everything.

Well, I hate pain pills (still have some Norco from my last surgery), and too much vodka prolly isn't such a great idea.

Enlisted, or are you looking into a commission? I strongly recommend finishing your four-year degree and going for a commission.

Indeed! It's a really long story on my decision, started toward the end of senior year of high school...

Yes, sir! I actually wanted to get into civilian law enforcement but... a few reasons made me put that idea on hold for now. Looked into the Coast Guard and they do a lot of maritime law enforcement - especially with the rate I'm looking at.

I think the recruiting slogan is "Born Ready".

Here, and Alaska! District 13 (PNW) and District 7 (SE US/Puerto Rico) are my top two choices at this current time. Though Alaska would be a new adventure/experience.

Most likely enlisting, with utilizing Tuition Assistance during my off time to get a BA and possibly applying for an officer spot down the line. Reason being is due to how competitive the Coast Guard is. OCS spots are very limited and its rare for civilians to go in as an officer in the CG right out of the gate. Even enlisting, recruiters are pretty selective.

I've been a jack-of-all-trades type of guy, even in the IT world, so the rate that will probably fit me is Boatswain's Mate. I wanted the Maritime Enforcement job but their A-School list is 2+ years long and is currently closed. BMs do everything, including boarding and other LE type duties - at least from what I read.

I waited for a year to enlist as an aircraft electronics technician. It was 100% worth the wait. If you are going to enlist, be damn sure you learn everything you possibly can about the work you are going into. There are big differences in respect and status in between rates. Look at the ASVAB minimums.

This looks interesting.

Most definitely, studying the ASVAB right now.

I've looked at all the rates for the past month or so, researched what they entail. I thought about IS (which follows my current career) but want to do something different - IS A-school is also a 1+ year wait.

What's different about the Coast Guard vs the other branches is the enlisting process. More or less, enlistees are guaranteed a MOS/rate upon signing on that dotted line. Coast Guard, one enters as a non-rate then they get to observe/perform the rated personnel. From there, they can choose which A-school to put their name into. (I'm sure you probably know this but just in case...)

Avionics Electrical Technician Interesting. In the Navy we divided these tasks between Aviation Electronics and Aviation Electrician.

Electronics Technician This looks cool.

Yea, don't think that would be a good idea either. I tried the *** oil, but couldn't say it does anything. Unfortunately the only thing that works, heavy duty NSAIDs, cause stomach problems and really taxes my kidneys. Trade one problem for another.
