![]() I suggest you have a face to face, one on one, talk with your boss and tell him how his actions make you feel. Ask him what he would suggest you do to improve. If that don't work - go find another boss. I've had good commanders and bad commanders; good bosses and bad bosses - life is too fucking short to put up with a jerk boss for any length of time! humfrz - retired |

Unfortunately that's part of my frustration. Even though it's a small company, it's set up to have very defined roles. I work with the development team a lot and would give them suggestions on the designs and it would either just fall on deaf ears or it would get incorporated but I wouldn't get the credit for it (the design team would).

My number was just my current job. I have had a wage paying job since my paper route at age 12, so 78%. Have my hair, but it changed color on me. |

Me: "Why is it so difficult for engineers to follow simple naming standards?"
Network Engineering Manager: "They're engineers." Me: "I see your point." |

How good is your manager? I guess this is a great stress-test - if they're interested in developing their directs, you have an ally. Paper trail it too, as much as can be done. And sometimes, be OK with official credit going one place - as long as it's also being noticed by people that matter that you might be a good fit... (I've also noted that I'm not always the only one with a particular solution to a problem - influencing and making a better product is just as beneficial, and sometimes less work in the long run...) I've done contracting and I prefer the full time gig. My current employer is the only contract-to-hire that wasn't a huge let-down on salary and benefits (and the only one I took) - and even that was a bit of a battle internally, I guess. Most of the time I'm disappointed in just about every aspect of what I do. But there are those moments. The hardest thing was coming to terms with the reality of what I'm good at AND enjoy vs what I thought I should be doing / would enjoy. Same skill-set but different application. In the end, it's the people I work with that keep me where I am (and inertia - don't discount the value of a forced push) It's a very different thing to plan for not having work and facing it. My wife and I ended up just barely missing 3 months with both of us unemployed - I was a contractor so it was planned for, but the 8 months she found herself floating was not expected and was brutal (notwithstanding the illegal crap the place she had been working did that fell to us to sort out... like withholding taxes but not actually paying the government...) Sometimes you need to make that leap. Sometimes, you need to scope it out a bit more. Also, I'd not count on a contract going FTE ever. Assume it's done early and you'll be a couple months searching. Can't help you make the decision, just observing and sharing thoughts. C
