The factory door speakers (or maybe it's the amp, or both?) will get overloaded (excursion) / clip (amp) if you run any kind of bass boost. That in turn muddies up a lot of the frequency range. I gave up on the OE head unit in both my '14 and '17 pretty quickly (I think after only ~10 miles on the '17) so don't know how much that may contribute. Sub will make a world of difference if you can high pass the door speakers. It won't help a lot (unless you're just after thubbbba) otherwise (beyond going a bit lower) "Sounds good to me" usually means "sounds like the thing I listen to most" which may not be particularly good... not that it matters a ton unless people are sharing settings insisting they've got some magic mix (and you're not).
