Used vs. New Header
Hi all,
New to the forum and wanted to get some advice from you all -- I'm looking to get a JDL UEL Catless Header for my BRZ. I found someone who is selling it for $500, but it has 20K miles on it. According to the seller though, the header is flawless. Should I go for it or buy a brand new one for $750? Just a little worried since the header has 20K miles on it. Thanks in advance! |

in my opinion, it's essentially just a pipe. If it isn't crushed, then what's there to worry about? Maybe a little bit of carbon build up, but won't be anything significant after 20k miles. Maybe a few external scrapes? That doesn't impact the function of the piping. I bought my headers used, and no ragerts. You have my vote to go for it, and put that $250 savings towards other mods.

Yup just a pipe - if it's catted then check the condition of the converter (I bought mine used with a cat), but otherwise as long as it's a good brand (JDL is excellent), welds look good, no damage in general (scrapes/rubs should be fine) then go for it.

If you can easily afford new, buy new. Otherwise a used name brand (not ebay) header will be just fine.

A new header becomes a used header as soon as you buy it.

Keep in mind you'll want new gaskets. They're cheap but something to consider.
Also might have to replace the hardware on the used parts, again cheap but not included normally. |

Thank you everyone for your input. I think I'll go ahead and buy the used header and put the rest of the money towards other mods

If you need oem gaskets. Buy them through subaru. Much cheaper than Toyota.

I would almost venture out on a limb and say to get the Grimm speed gaskets or vibrant gaskets I have had pretty good luck with them.

I bought the Grimmspeed gaskets for my JDL UEL catless header. Absolutely not leaks. Just make sure you tighten them to the proper torque
