@runfrodorun, I've re-read your OP twice now. Assuming you are still here and want some advice from a random dude on the Internet, here you go...
It's time to sell the car and move on. You are obviously not happy with it, or the service you have been getting from Subaru. In addition, at this point no matter what Subaru does you are not going to be happy with the results. Life is too short for that aggravation. Obviously, based on the fact that the transmission was replaced, you were having some level of issues. Every car model that has ever been produced, no matter how stellar, has individual cars that have issues. That doesn't mean they all do, but the only one that matters is the one you are driving. If it were me (and I have done this) I would sell or trade the car, get something different, and move on. I might write the dealership and Subaru to let them know my dissatisfaction and why I'll never be buying one of their cars again, or I might just silently slip away as a customer, it just depends on my mood. You shouldn't have any issue ridding yourself of the car, given it is at about 50K miles. Yes you may lose some money in the deal so you'll have to decide if its worth it to you. That said the minute you bought a car you signed up to lose money on it, that's just the way it works. Your only other alternatives are 1) to continue to fight the good fight, shopping for a dealer willing to fix it, or going to Subaru corporate, but it looks like you've exhausted that avenue. Given you are approaching the drivetrain warranty, I'm guessing you have run out of road on that one 2) pay to have the problem fix. I suppose option 3) is to live with it. As far as the fuel pump, realize that not everyone had the issue, and in the end it isn't even really an issue, as the pump was functioning fine, it was just noisy.

The real concern with no HTTPS is that any data is transmitted across the internet in plain text, so if someone where to intercept it, they could read whatever you send. Use a password for this site which is unique to this site and unlike any other passwords (don't just use a usual password with a different number after it or something like that), and don't PM any sensitive info (e.g. credit card numbers). Other than that, post until your heart's content.

My 2017 BRZ does not have any transmission issues as of 22500 miles. In fact, it's a godsend from my 13 where I had to replace the TOB 3x.

OP, I am sorry that you have had a bad time with your car. After owning over 30 cars, I can tell you: Not all cars are good cars. Even buying a new car will not guarantee that it is good.(though generally these days it will be) Additionally, some cars seem to have bad luck. My S2000 that I had for two years, spent one of those years in the shop.
![]() ![]() I agree with @Dadhawk - "It's time to sell the car and move on." I have owned my 2013 for 6 years now and have put 76,000 miles on it. I have only had coilpack #1 fail on me. Better luck with your next vehicle.

I keep seeing references to the 2017 transmission in the comments but doesn't OP have a 2013?
I think that video he posted was just for illustrative purposes. It's a '17 in the video with ~500km. OP says he has a little shy of 50k miles. At any rate, this being my first MT car and only having ~1400 miles under my belt I can't add too much concerning operability since I just don't have the experience to do so. That being said, even in learning to drive it I've not once had any grinding. The fiasco with the dealership seems odd to me, though. OP should be minimum 25 y.o. based on 9 years of driving a manual. I don't see the issue with the loaner car when it comes to their age, especially considering that most dealerships these days have what amounts to a, basically, separate entity that rents and loans cars out to the customers of the dealership. There's obviously another side to this story but I doubt we will ever hear it. I bet this guy posts a lot of Yelp reviews, though... Just a hunch. |

My car has been through a flooding that granted it a salvage title, it's been through 50k miles of Vermont weather, I shift frequently without using the clutch. My 4th gear -used- to grind at high rpm shifts. 3 motul300 fluid changes later it doesn't bark, the little insecurities it expressed when I'd shift from 1st to second at -16F have ceased, reverse still let's me engage while I'm rolling forward. I'm completely catless with stock catback and the car is quiet on the inside.
I think the consensus here might be to try something else. Go back to a BMW, they're pretty cheap used and you're already familiar with them. Not trying to be rude, but maybe the trauma you've experienced will always keep you from enjoying it, and like a girlfriend that has cheated on you, it may be easier to say goodbye than to trust? Also, in the video, there's a grind at 4:19. The only time I've had grind is if I'm not putting effort into a shift. At this point in the video, they've got two fingers on the shifter and lazily schmooze the shifter into second. I'm with OP. Dealer support for this car is terrible. Reminder they denied warranty clIms for transmission fixes while throwout bearings we're practically melting in this car. I can't help but feel entitled so at least some compensation for these parts that fail prematurely, wearing the car down.
Inb4 boomers triggered by the word entitled. One time a dealership service writer refused to change my transmission fluid at 35k miles because "fluid was good for the life of the vehicle". was literally wanting to pay for one and she denied it. That's the level of competence/ service we have to deal with. |

Also the site runs and has run SSL for a while now. Also, who cares if your super top secret posts about ours cars gets intercepted. Also, who cares if your user/password is intercepted. I assume no one actually uses the same password here as they do their bank or any other website for that matter.

As an Information Security Analyst I feel comfortable saying that is a terrible assumption to make. Many people use the same password for every website they visit, even when explicitly warned not to.
