@Tcoat

because everyone thinks they're special and that they should get priority over everyone else. this mindset from everyone gets you a line of jerks all thinking they're going to "one up" everyone else and afraid everyone else will do it to them. this has been my observation in just about every airport I've been to. I can see this being worse in Atlanta since it's the busiest airport in the world you get folks from all over needing to be somewhere right damned now.

I always fly economy comfort at the very least. not to be fancy but me getting stuck in a tiny seat(especially in the middle) isn't going to be fun for anyone. So i don't usually have to wait for my section very long to board. however I do stand ready for a fight at all times.

the absolute worst ones about trying to push up front or cut in line, women, women with kids and older women. they know no one is going to hit them or hold their ground when they walk right at them. they expect everyone to move and not saying anything to them. of course this only works on guys. other broads will unsheathed the claws. I don't move and just let them run into me. in crowded places I'm basically invisible anyways. not sure how but people will slam into me all the time. my favorite is people walking backwards. I just look at them like they're idiots and say, "it's crowded you probably shouldn't walk backwards.".

I hate people. can you tell?

My favourite are the people with grossly oversize "carry on" bags. Sometimes they even have two or three. Takes them 2 minutes to wedge in each piece and sometimes even longer to get it out again. They can use up two bins just for their stuff. That one is the airline fault though since they do not even seem to attempt to enforce the rule that it is supposed to fit in the little gauge rack at the gate. Nothing like watching somebody try to jam two large roller bags into the bin of a small regional turboprop and then get really pissed when it just won't fit.

yeah that's not the same at all. assuming you're talking about getting raped or something. if you're talking about a girl with big bewbs wearing a very revealing top complaining about being looked at I'd say that is exactly why she is wearing it. chicks that wear revealing tops want attention. they only get mad when it's attention from someone they don't want the attention from.

it's also not irrelevant. if someone's not showing up to work and causing hardships for others it's a problem.

Quote:
Again, irrelevant. The person showing up for work needs to be addressed, but so does the behavior of someone willing to leave this note rather than address it properly. Both are abuses, pure and simple. One can be fixed (attendance), the other may actually be more serious because it points to character.

I'm guessing we disagree and that's OK. At some level I do find it funny (one of those we all wish we could do that sort of thing), but that doesn't mean it's right or appropriate.
I think that just says the person that left the note wants to get a point across without getting HR involved(didn't work out here) and make a big stink. it also shows that they have a sense of humor.

I couldn't imagine one of my employees coming to me crying about a note like that.

Me: Are you coming to work like you should?

Yes? then don't worry about.

No? maybe you should and quit letting your feelings get hurt but a note. grow up.

While I can appreciate the sentiment of "a hit dog will holler," and not liking picking up someone else's slack, no. Passive-aggressive notes to individuals isn't how that should have been handled. While there appears to be a consensus that the person is "sick" as opposed to actual sick, they could have something serious going on that isn't visibly apparent. Think early cancer diagnosis. If that were the case, then whoever wrote the note just made a huge jackass out of themselves involving someone who is already going through a lot.

If there is an attendance problem, then there is a decent chance HR is already looking into it. If someone else's poor attendance is causing you extra work, go through the proper channels to complain. Leaving a note has the potential of being a huge **** move regarding a situation you don't fully understand. In general, try not to be a ****, and don't make assumptions about such things.

I am in the PTO camp personally. Just give people X amount of days. Who cares if they have the flu or just need a mental health day or they just feel like they need to play video games on a Tue.

That's pretty well where I stand. Same with Holidays. My company has a pure PTO policy. Even "official" corporate holidays require you to take a PTO day if you want to take them off. By working most of the minor ones, I end up with an extra week of vacation every year rather than the random Monday off where I don't really do anything.

If one of my employees calls in for a random day, I don't require them to explain it to me. I do require appropriate notice for anything over a day though unless it is an urgent matter.

Didn't say it wasn't a problem, just not relevant to whether or not the note was appropriate. The note was not appropriate. Even in jest it creates a potentially hostile work environment, particularly done anonymously. I had something similar happen once, and the person receiving the note took it as a threat, even not meant that way, got ugly fast. We had to do an entire investigation including security and other such things because it became an issue.

If the recipient went to HR they obviously did not think it was a joke so the humor is lost. It's almost like laughing at a person who gets bullied.

Now, so we are clear, I'm about as far as you can get from "politically correct" or "progressive", whatever the word is today. Still, some things can't be tolerated if you want to maintain some semblance of a good productive work environment. I joke around with my team all the time and we even do some level of pranking, but that is not what this was, it was just mean spirited and passive agressive, at least a face value.

Just a differing of opinion in the end. I'm guessing you've not had to deal with the aftermath of something like this going "wrong".

Regardless, I've said my peace on it. I'll just agree to disagree.
