Estimate of value for insurance should always be based on what it costs to replace, not what you can sell it for. What a dealership would list it for is what you would need to find out.

Maybe $700 for a repainted replacement fender ?
Not even close to $1600, that's for sure.

If that comes out under $10k I'd be pretty shocked.
I highly doubt a insurance paid shop is going to say it's 700

Have you guys priced it out for real? I have.

Three quotes, all within ~$60 of each other, all right around $1600.

There's also a lot more prep, blending into adjacent panels, etc. Unless you're fine with the fender not matching, they're blending onto the bumper, hood and drivers door.

If you guys want to keep arguing I'll go dig up the quotes so you can see for yourselves.

Disregard the Americians since they will never understand that what things cost there is not what they cost everywhere.

Max is right the fender costs around $400 to $500. You are right since by the time that $400 part is on and painted properly it is at least $1600. In fact if your quotes are personal ones then they could be low since the insurance quotes are usually at least 20% more. If people can find a place to do it cheaper then good for them but it wouldn't be my choice. Body work is one of the top you get what you pay for jobs.

Understood, and I don't really think his is a write-off. I was primarily referring to your statement that if it was a '13 it might be close to totaled, and I believe you are correct.

I know when I had my minor repair done to the front end back a year or so ago, it was no where near this significant and the repair still cost almost $2,000 as handled by insurance. You are right that there is a difference between Canada and US pricing of course.

Well, technically private sale value is what it would cost to replace it, at a bare minimum. Dealer would probably be 10% or so higher. Doing a quick search on Autotrader saw most '13 cars with close to 100K miles on it in the $11K to $13K list price depending on the US location. Even using the highest price that would put it totaled at around a $9K repair price.

Ahhh I understand.
mine is probably so low on the value scale that it could be written off if a wiper blade blows away.

Going to come down to what they have to do with the rear panel. If it's no frame damage and it can all be popped out, it won't be horrible. Bolt-on parts. It could go high very quickly if the frame is bent, the trunk isn't closing right, etc.

Hopefully they replace the rear suspension frame, 'cause it's bent if the wheel was hit.

Long as you're walking away... stuff happens. My previous car was hit behind the rear door, pretty much the same area crumpled (though I didn't have any bumper damage). They had to cut out and replace a whole section, blend, and repaint. That was near $5k if I remember right. Fortunately my insurance had to step in to help out or it would have been even worse (Geico sucks by the way). Impossible model to replace, and even trying would have gotten expensive real quick. I could barely tell - I believe it was just a touch stiffer on that side after the change. But for a car that 3-wheeled regularly, no noises, no panel alignment issues or evidence of the repair when putting it in direct stress.

Trust me not the american issue, Idk where they are getting those quotes from at least in PA and NJ wparsons numbers are spot on. As of late paint and body labor time is more expensive with newer paint formulas and hazards and such

Nope insurance is taking their time... I've been driving a Hyundai Sonata provided by the insurance company since the accident and it's so big! And yeah I can't really move the car because it needs a flatbed to be moved around and until I get the green light from them it's just sitting at the tow lot waiting.
