Actually if you think about it during every era all the Japanese cars regardless of brand looked pretty much the same. All the designers must have hung out at the same izakaya every night after work.

Not just the Japanese cars. Check out a similar era Ford Probe, Camaro or Chrysler Sebring. It was as if they all said "ok enough with this square body 80s crap let's all do squashed and rounded".
