I purchased the dual setup through CSG recently. I did a data log of my daily commute before and after the install. I figured the data may interest some, since I was looking for more.
Car has JDL UEL header ceramic coated, flex fuel kit, and DT tune. Both logs were done on 93oct. Before Cooler: Ambient Temp 91F, humid day (no RH value) After Cooler: Ambient Temp 98F, also very humid. Overall, I'm happy with the dual rad/oil cooler. I'll log temperatures during my upcoming track event as well. |

Edit: maybe adding a thermostat for oil line with a temperature limit close to 210F would be good. We don't want oil temperature to go below 200F. |

It would be nice to know what is in the oil cooler side. My guess is that it is something like this trans cooler combo, which is like the Forester XT cooler, but maybe larger in surface area. It kinda begs the question whether this dual setup would perform much different than the Forester XT setup with a larger radiator. It would be nice to know how much more surface area this oil cooler has.

So I promised I would provide some feedback once the Jackson Dual Cooler was installed. Initial comparison logs seems very promising. While Oil temp could easily reach 280 degF when driving at high revs before, during a first test with the Dual Oil Cooler, the Highest Oil Temp I reached was 235 degF. During each test, the engine was maintained largely above 4000 RPM for about a 20min period. Running the engine constantly at 4000 RPM or higher is really where I found an oil cooler to be a must, where Temp would reach 260F very fast (3-4 mins) and up to 280F. Otherwise, in "normal high load" conditions with this turbo set-up, I found the stock cooling system could still be sufficient with the 5W40 Oil I use, where Oil Temp would go up in the 240-250F range but not really beyond that, so not really scary with 5w40, but probably borderline for 0W20. With the Dual Cooler, it seems it will be able to keep my oil under 240F even in worst case conditions and benefit from faster warm up time as well from a cold start or winter, which is great. It also warms up faster to operating temp (anecdotally about 5 mins versus 9 mins), and since the oil does not go as high, brings it back to normal operating temp much faster after RPM is reduced. Water Temp did not exceed 212F with the Dual cooler, where previously it went typically to 212F and up to 215F worst case. So Adding the Oil Cooler does not seem to be detrimental to Water Temp, with the larger Radiator. An interesting tidbit is that Oil Temp seems to be mainly a factor of the RPM over time. The Test 2 with the stock cooling system was under higher load than Test 1, but both seemed to influence Oil Temp about the same way when looking at the RPM & time. In test 1, it took over 13 mins to bring the oil back down from 276F to 220F. With the Dual Cooler, in 5 mins the oil was back down from 230F to 210F. This is precisely what I was looking for... Results with the JR dual setup on track. Was a cool day, 68F or so. This is on e85 for what its worth.
Oil temperature stayed below 230F all day. |

Don't have any before/after logs but I can report drops in oil temps from about 220F to 190F on the highway, and from around 245F to 220F on mountain runs (hovering about 6000 rpm constantly). Haven't had the time to track it yet but I suspect this will ease my stress since last time I was hitting over 260F on track.

I don't think I've previously posted in this thread, but I'm very happy with my Jackson Racing Dual-Rad Oil Cooler. I was peaking ~268F on track before hand and now am peaking ~221F on the track with 25 minute sessions. It also still warms up reasonably quickly just driving on the highway here in Texas.
I've not yet installed any sensors in the sandwich plate but I'm planning on adding an AEM oil pressure gauge and running the pressure sensor from the sandwich plate instead of from the oil gallery plug, we'll see what that ends up looking like at some point in the future. |
