One of the engineering marvels if of it's time. Complicated mechanisms machined to such fine tolerances that it took a team of highly trained personnel to make even minor repairs.




Built in barns made from parts manufactured practically by hand in often distant and random locations. Could be repaired by an illiterate farmer with basic hand tools using parts blown off other vehicles.

Actually one the major drivers of the cold war was that the Soviet Union thought we owed them reparations for how many millions they lost during WWII. We (the US) just came in last minute and declared victory after the rest of the world had nearly exhausted all of their resources.
