FYI, $25K coverage from RLI for one day is about $150. 10% deductible.

Here's a fun fact about power in the 86. I have 300whp/255wtq on a mustang dyno and I love the car so much with it. I still loved the car without it. On a scale from 1-10, N/A was 10 and turbo is 10.5++++. I enjoy the power in passing moments and A/C sucking power moments(5% of the time). I could care less about street racing bragging rights.

The consumables on the Cayman are much higher than a twin and the purchase price of the cheapest S are on par with new twins.

You gain a whole new love for the car when you can push it to its (and your) limit... avoid the Porsche tax on consumables and maintenance).

I drive 2012 gt86. If I sell it I can buy base cayman 2006-2008.

Heard that 2.7 didn't have bore scoring issues due to low output.

I drove STI before ft, now I miss torque and "car balls'.

Love the sound of cayman 2.7. And it's faster than brz on a straight.

What are negative sides of 10-years old cayman 2.7? I don't drive frs daily, my average mileage is 3k a year.
What expensive failures can 10year cayman 2.7 have?

Depends on how much routine maintenance you're comfortable doing yourself.

Spark plugs, accessory drive belt and water pump need to be replaced roughly every 50,000 miles. Front brake rotors need replacement (roughly) every 60,000 miles, 100,000 miles for rear rotors. Caymans like to eat their window regulators prematurely. I'm not sure about the lifespan of the clutch on the 2.7, but for the 3.4 on average they only last around 100,000 miles. And that's a $2000-3000 job at a shop.

The pre-'09 Cayman 2.7 has an output of 245 PS. Not a small difference, but don't forget that it is also +140kg heavier than the GT86. It'll have better top speed and a bit better acceleration, but not too much difference. Have you done anything in your 86 or is it stock?

Mine is stock. I don't want to sacrifice the reliability by installing FI

Do you mean actually stock? You'll be amazed what a tune and headers can accomplish for removing the torque dip. Terrible area under the curve is what makes our cars feel boring, not the tag that says 200hp. Flatten out the torque curve and the car becomes great

FYI most base Caymans came with a 5 speed manual transmission, not a 6. I think your fear about the M97 engine is overblown.

I don't see the point in going with a substantially more expensive car for a small performance increase. Makes little sense.

I was 5 min from getting a used cayman as my DD. But my round trip commute is 78 miles and the BRZ auto gets 33 mpg. I just felt you blow out miles on a Subie, not a Porsche.
The brz really is 80% of a Porsche for 20% the cost. Adjust numbers how you want but you get it. I also have had an 04 WRX wagon for practicality and fun for 15 years and love it , I take that to work once a week. Both cars are great but the feel of the BRZ is special. Not getting the cayman has me thinking 993 as a weekend car, just need a recession to cool off prices.
