When people get an after market header why do they change out their over and front pipe too? From the YouTube videos I've seen, they always make the car sound far too loud and like a trumpet.

I want to go for a JDL catted UEL header but with stock front and over pipe, but keep my Borla cat back exhaust. I'm not after a super loud sound, I just want the rumble and the performance once I get the OFT as well.

From what I've read, the front and over pipe don't add much performance gains on NA cars anyway.

Am I missing something?

Why would I have to talk to her?

Yes, you are missing that this is the part of the forum where we tell jokes, give each other shit, and general stupidness.

Post serious question in serious part of board.

Wife and I went to Davenport for breakfast this AM. The coast was exceptionally beautiful this morning. The ocean was grey under the fog, then there would be patches of bright blue where the sun was busting thru. It was really cool.

We drove up Hwy1, turned around and came home 9 thru saratoga. A 1983 Ferrari 512 joined us on 9. We had fun. Great day.

OK, folks, we are grandchildless tomorrow, so we are going to drive the FR-S up to and around Mt Rainier.

However, I have some concerns (besides accidently backing off the mountain).

1. I checked the crankcase oil level and it's between the little holes. Now we are going around the mountain counterclockwise and I'm worried about oil starvation, and spinning a rod bearing, #3 in particular. So, if I'm always turning to the left, is rod bearing #3 being set up to spin ??

2. Some of the curves going up the mountain are quite sharp and steep. My MT car doesn't have hill assist. So, if I get stuck on a curve, and can't get it into 1st or 2nd and 3rd won't pull it. what should I do??

3. It is forecasted to be mid 90's tomorrow and I have my license plate smack dab in the center of the grill, should I be concerned? I checked the water level in the radiator overflow bottle and it is above the full mark (engine cold). The last time it was right on the full mark. My engine is gaining fluid! Does that mean it's not circulating throughout the engine and not getting hot enough for some to evaporate, thus overheating the engine? Will the higher altitude help or hinder this situation?

4. As you may know (or suspect) the road up to and around Mt Rainier is quite steep in places. My car doesn't have a lightweight crank pulley. Will it be able to pull up all the hills??

5. Since it will be hot tomorrow, and we all know this engine runs hot, what are the chances that my engine will suffer a fried spark plug coil?

6. My last concern is the TOB going out. So, if it does, and have to leave the transmission in neutral, just using my Georgia overdrive to get back off the 14,000 foot mountain (I live at an elevation of 346 feet - so I know I can make it) will the TOB hold together well enough that it won't lock up the pressure plate and stop the flywheel?

Thanks for your thoughts on these concerns.

Good idea. I was thinking about my wheels, but most likely the studs will have broken off and the wheels lost.

You will need to flip the car over every couple of thousand miles to make all the oil go to the top of the engine. It is the only way to get around the engineering flaws created by the grade 8 tech class that designed the engine.

2. Some of the curves going up the mountain are quite sharp and steep. My MT car doesn't have hill assist. So, if I get stuck on a curve, and can't get it into 1st or 2nd and 3rd won't pull it. what should I do??

Make the wife get out and push.

The only way it is gaining fluid is if somebody is adding it. You must have some weirdo sneaking in at night and adding it. The only answer is to get your gun, hide in the bushed and cap that sonofabitch.

4. As you may know (or suspect) the road up to and around Mt Rainier is quite steep in places. My car doesn't have a lightweight crank pulley. Will it be able to pull up all the hills??

Not a hope in hell you will make it without that extra .58HP.

5. Since it will be hot tomorrow, and we all know this engine runs hot, what are the chances that my engine will suffer a fried spark plug coil?

Cut holes in your hood to release the heat.

Subaru was very clear in their TSB that this is only an issue when people rest their foot on the clutch pedal so unless you do that you will be fine. If it does go DO NOT use the handbrake and an emergency brake. This forum has explained many times that it is for parking ONLY.

Thanks for your thoughts on these concerns.

Good Ol' Humfrz, still living on the edge.

Just don't hit a delivery truck backing out, and make sure you flash your high altitude tune.

If you hit torque dip during the apex of the turn that little Miata behind you is going to get around you on the inside.
