I have a gas station right next to my work that just recently became a Shell station, so I'm tempted to try it.

I think all the gas in CT is 10% ethanol. So if that is linked to the chirping then Subayota is my only hope. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Did the engine feel any smoother, quieter apart from the chirping having stopped? The comment to use marine 2T is a good one and a high performance low ash version if available. Lots of apprehension from others afraid to add something specifically designed for the job but apparently having less concern for what's happening to the fuel pump and injectors as the washer breaks down. |

Has anyone tried Marvel Mystery oil? Should do the trick from other things I've read/heard about it. I'm gonna try it to see if it takes care of it.

You can get Marvel in those huge containers so maybe it's just as cost effective at that scale. I'd be interested to learn whether it remedies the issue.

Has anyone went to the dealership pointed out your findings or at leased called they to put it on record that doing this does make the crickets go away then toyota can source out a product that they feel comfortable with and us the minimum standard.

I do not believe that you guys should be "OK" with having to add anything to the fuel. There is an obvious problem, that Subaru/Toyota need to address.

Agree but if there is a temporary fix that doesn't harm the engine/exhaust system it might be worth a try. The sound is very annoying.

My suggestion to the people who put the 2 cycle oil in that they note the mileage when they used and the milage when the noise returns and rinse and repeat so when you talk to the regional rep. They can pass the info on and find a more perminat solution that isn't costing us extra money cause it will be done when you get your oil changed or when you change you own oil if you follow what I'm saying. |

I'm going to buy THIS (3.2oz Pennzoil 2-cycle oil bottle) and THIS (1gal of the same oil).
I'm going to carry the small bottle with me and add it to the tank every time I fill up and then I'll refill it at home. 3.2oz bottle gets you roughly 500:1 in our 13.2gal tank. I'm going to try to run my tank down to the light but not much further before filling up so I'll keep the bottle about 2/3 to 4/5 full as there will already be some in the tank. I've been researching it and using quality 2-cycle oil looks like it will do no harm to a 4-cycle engine and will actually only serve to prolong the life of the engine by ensuring lubrication every cycle. Some even claim it can help gas mileage albeit minimally. I realize, again, that having to do this is absurd. But I've worked out the math and using ~3oz of that gallon jug at each fill up should cost $0.40. This is WELL worth not having to deal with that chirping until they fix it. Can anyone confirm hearing that Toyota/Subaru are addressing this? It may have been mentioned in this thread and even though I've read it all I cannot recall.
