socal smog legal exhaust

does anyone know which exhaust systems are smog legal in socal. I'm looking for something that adds some performance and has a nice sound to it. price isn't an issue but would rather something on the affordable side. Thanks!

All exhausts are smog legal. its only the front pipe and the header that you cant change if you want to stay smog legal

Hi Driven Photography.

About the only way to significantly increase power by modifying the exhaust, is to replace the header with one that doesn't have a cat. Therein lies the problem with staying smog legal in CA.

Now, you can change the cat back or axle back portions of the exhaust system and get some cool sounds, but no significant power gains.

The "simplest" way get some sounds and a small increase in power is go with a cat or axle back system, a freer flowing air filter and a tune (optional).

Due to the recent increase in ticketing of modified cars in Socal, it might be better to avoid the headache of being sent to the state referee. Cat-back FTW

+1. Also, be mindful that some exhaust systems are loud and they'll ticket you for excessive noise. CHP can also ding you with Ref too if they're in a bad mood as well

All catback exhausts are *smog* legal, but may not be *sound level* legal.

Just gut the cat so you have the appearance of legal. 90% the power gain 0% the cost.

The only suggestion i have is try to find a high flow catted header that you can fit the stock heat shield onto with little to no modification.

You can say no to the smog check points.
And even if you fail the smog test, there aren't any consequences.

There are no *immediate* consequences, but there are many stories of cars getting a ticket just down the street after turning it down. I can neither confirm nor deny; you know how the internet is with these things....
