Alarms and Stereos

Hey guys,

Will be picking up my GT in just over a week and was having a chat to the dealers about options. Now, being the lazy guy that I am I've gone with paint protection/interior protection and tints with them, which weren't that cheap - $1395 (Seperately they were 695 for tints and about 1200 for the paint protection, so thought meh why not..)

I brought up additional extras such as an alarm, and theyve given me one option which was a CANBUS system (no model number or anything, so I can't check). For this it was 1295 so I'm thinking I'm much better off going aftermarket. What do you guys think - have you any recommendations for a place in central Melbourne who can do this?

While I have no idea what the sound quality will be like on the factory stereo, I'm sure it will be crap. What is everyone doing to theirs?

Yeah by itself it is, but with the paint protection it wasn't too much extra.

You could just get opticoat + tints elsewhere and you'll save a few hundred. Same with the alarm system.

Sound system.. I'm still 50/50 with what I should do. I do like the factory gts headunit.. It does the job so I'm probably going to keep it and get an external processor + new speakers all around. Haven't quite decided if I want to sacrifice boot space for one or two 10" subs. I had two 12" clarions in my old car which I miss very much.. Once you get quality bass it's hard to go without after

If you dont mind the drive, go to Phatt Audio in Braeside, talk to Sam of Brett, tell them Fudd sent you,
They should be able to look after you pretty well on the alarm, a pretty hi-end after market alarm should be about half the price that Toyota quoted you!.
Also, they are one of the best car audio stores in Aust, they have built some of the best show cars around (Alpine 300c, Nitro & ute. Eclipse Tarago etc)
and not to mention my old Aust championship winning SQ car /gloat
