Advice from a 64 year old.
Just wait a few days before doing anything. You're emotional, you're excessively and unnecessarily demeaning yourself, and the world seems to be coming to an end. But it isn't. One thing is for sure... making decisions quickly is likely to be a mistake. Wait, chill, think it out, and when you're in a less emotional state of mind, using the best advice you've got, then the way forward will be clear. Take it easy. We all screw up. Be thankful you survived your dumbass lesson. Many aren't so lucky

You're not the first to have to pay a "stupid tax".
Learn and go forward. And I agree with Fish, relax. Down the road you'll have a good, "when I was a kid..." story. |

You guys are all being too easy on him.
From your brief history here, you should be riding a bus and not driving a car. Don't ever touch the fucking traction control button again unless you are on a track or you are sliding on a hill in the slow and need to disengage it. |

how bad is the damage? can you repair it yourself, or with cash? then just buy the car off lease.

Fight the ticket, get it reduced or eliminated at any cost! Better to pay now than death by a thousand cuts from insurance over the next few years. Driving a cheaper car won't help you if insurance thinks you are high risk.
Curious about how bad the damage is?? I think someone mentioned if it's cosmetic just leave it for now. Nice badge of shame. I'm thinking if you don't make a claim to insurance to fix the car that may help your rates as well. Personally I've never driven with traction control ON, so I wouldn't criticize you for turning the babysitter off. However... learn to control the car and learn to respect it. |

dont get into a car you can barely afford and dont drive said car like youre on the track.. youre in a parking lot with a stock 86, no one is going to care. and traction control off while casually street driving is literally no difference than when its on so not needed. sounds like you made mistakes before this incident
i dont know if its the same but when i got a red light ticket in winter i went into the traffic court and got it reduced over half and an extra 2 month's to pay and i didnt have to say much so at least you could try that? as far as the car and its lease either you gotta fix it and keep it or fix it and hope someone takes over i would imagine is your best bet |

The thing is, if I can get the ticket reduced I'll leave it until I can fix it out of pocket. But if they hit me with the careless driving charge I'll make a claim, get it back to new and try to get someone to take over the lease. As far as the suggestions to going to the track. I DO go to the track and autocross it when I can, I also spend a good amount of time in industrial parking lots on rainy days. I've had the car 4 months now and I've put just over 9000km's on it so it gets used believe me. |

Why he bought a 30k car at 18 is beyond me. It sounds like almost 100% of pay he earns was already going to this car, now adding on the accident and expected raise in insurance, it is over the amount of actual money he will have month to month.

Fortunately, despite my very little income (relatively), I'm 18 and have no responsibilities, other than my phone and my car. Other than that despite some pretty grim living conditions the government takes care of me. I can afford my insurance tripling but that would really tie my hands, at that point I would do my best to have someone take over the lease. You see, I am pretty dumb yes, but don't believe I didn't do the math before signing the contract. I just underestimated how much I could fuck up in 4 months. |

I'd be interested in knowing how fast OP was going to cause the car to jolt uncontrollably midturn especially if he was saying he was getting heckled for reckless driving Last edited by HKz; 06-13-2018 at 03:09 PM. |

I should clarify I didn't go over any curbs or anything, the sign was in the middle of the road, right before a grassy median. It was one of those signs that warn about an upcoming median. ![]() Here's a curious thought. The reason that temporary sign was there was because someone had gone over the curb and taken out the permanent sign. I came to that conclusion when the paralegal and I were looking at google maps images. If that sign wasn't there I wouldn't have hit anything, I never went into oncoming traffic either, and there was no one on my side of the road. |
