It seems that most people today want something for nothing -- a cheap car than handles extremely well and has over 500 hp. That's what really gets me about this topic. This car is fine as is. The designer at Toyota said if he put more HP into the car, he'd have to redesign the whole car including structure and suspension to have it as balanced as he would want. Besides, they just did add 5hp. Isn't that enough????????????
I can't answer that. I agree with you. I assume that, to many, if it looks fast it should be fast(er than a minivan). The price point is such that dreamers can afford it. Unreasonable people can afford it. It gets bought, and given, as a first car. Some probably fall in love with the idea of great handling sports car when all they really want is to go effortlessly fast in town. Some probably don't even know what they want. Most of all us have, at one time or another, chased a pretty face with a non-compatible personality....this is likely no different.

So I shift down to 5th, and speed climbs so slowly, so I shift down to 4th. Still not really enough. I love how alive it feels at 5K+ rpm, but sometimes getting there is a pain. Meanwhile in my old Mini, which was turbocharged, I could squeeze the throttle in 6th and make quicker progress cause all the power was down low. Hopefully a UEL and a tune helps that, but at this point I gotta say I can't wait to get me an Edelbrock. In a way I did buy the wrong car, but it IS rear wheel drive, two door, manual, light, and with great handling and looks, with just the speed missing. I feel that once that's addressed, it'll be exactly the car I want.
No. Bad Canadian. Bad.

It's easy to have straight line envy if, like me, you've only really daily driven the car so far. I do not share this inadequate feeling, but I do feel that I have not really opened this car up much because of the constraints of city roads and the lack of twisties in the GTA.

It's 401/400 series I assume you're talking about? No need for huge torque while travelling at 90-99.9 (you're basically at the speed limit hello), and even then getting into 3rd is not an issue. 3rd will *roughly* from what I remember, hit 115-120ish.

Travel on highway, get to 6th gear, then drop into neutral position. What do now? WHAT DO?!? Doesn't really matter what gear you jump from, just match rpm accordingly.

I have been testing some ways to blip the rpm and have noticed that if you blip per gear you shift down, you're pretty much at the correct rpm you need to go into said gear, although, there is never a reason to go from 6th - 2nd/1st, unless, you like to tempt fate.

OH, and you shouldn't have backed out of the track day -_-, i'm sure this would've helped to understand the car more, as I much expect it to do for myself. It's this weekend, and I just can't wait.

This is not a scientific race but shows something of the difference between more TQ/hp against a lower TQ car. Course our car would win against a minivan but it won’t murder a minivan.

Quiet you! Actually I put a couple more psi in the tires and now it's not bad again. Maybe that was it

It just dawned on me that this argument is really moot today. People are so distracted with their phones that anyone who's paying attention in any car can pretty much get the jump on all the zombies on the road. They will likely notice you've left them behind after a couple seconds and floor their car/truck till they're 20mph over the speed limit, but who's really having more fun?

So I just did a spirited drive on a short, twisty road that I haven’t done for a while. I forgot how it feels in the 5 - 6K RPM range, nice and punchy (relatively). Unfortunately, we can’t drive in the 5 - 7K range normally without sounding like a maniac The power is there. As long as you don’t go very fast.

What's wrong with sounding like a maniac?

Perhaps, but in my rather painful experience it's called "motorcycle rider crush."

meh,

Here is a car with ~200hp similar to BRZ in weight, speed.

1985 911 Carrera.

The BRZ has a lot of same fun to drive, character and small feel etc..

I don't want to presume, but aside from the status and heritage and what all the Porsche has, the BRZ is certainly easier to live with (comfort and convenience) as well as reliability. I think this is a fairer comparison than not.

You won't be hunting powerful cars but can have a lot of fun in the BRZ but almost have to look past the lack of power.

BRZ is a go kart. I drive a WRX and a BRZ back to back each week. They are both great but the BRZ is a bit more fun despite being much slower.
