How fast a car with a good driver can go around a track and how fast a street driven car with an average driver is are not the same thing and should not be used as a comparison.
There are indeed a couple of minivans that are "faster" but they are rare and who cares anyway? The question posed here was "Is the power adequate for a DD?" not "what can beat what on the track". The answer to the question is that although there are most certainly many "faster" cars on the road the power, acceleration and handling of the Twins make them more than "adequate" as a DD.

The length of this thread is a giveaway to the inadequate horsepower complex people seem to have here, of course resulting in some going FI.

Crap, back in '86 the 5L Mustang GT was the most powerful tail happy car around with a whopping 225 HP on tap.

The only unfortunate thing is that the manufacturer will not offer a more powerful option, but they still make an outstanding product! If they did have more power they would never have sold the overall numbers I am willing to bet since everyone would cry why $15K more for the more powerful option. It costs a lot more than the material cost to make this car faster in stock form. And Porsche is one of a tiny group of car companies that actually make higher profit margin on material cost since they do budget a lot for other costs too. Its part of what constitutes a Porsche, not a budget priced Toyota/Subaru.

Buy this and add mods, or just buy an entry level or used Cayman/Boxster for more power in a similar package. Compact, light AND powerful is not in the economical category for most potential buyers here. Fortunately Mustangs are cheap in the US and are good cars now too but extremely different from the twins- like comparing a jockey to a linebacker.

Sometimes, if you're a great artist, you've got a great brush, a great canvas, a great idea, but the paint you're provided is dry and lackluster. You can keep your materials and get paint that suits your vision; a car isn't stuck in its stock form. You can add power if you like. I am going FI because this car checks off every box for me that no other car can fill, I just want a little bit more crazy, a little bit more noise, a little more excitement. These seats, this steering, this suspension geometry, this balance, this look, this DI fueling, this high compression, this RWD... I'd rather add a little power than try to find all of that in another car.

I've had plenty of e36 BMWs. Every time, i end up buying h&r cup springs, koni struts, a z3 steering rack, a z3 transmission, new driver's seat, chip tuning, fixing the window regulators, fighting oil leaks, etc. I finally realized... Why not buy a car that just comes with everything I want and add a bit of torque/hp?

Sorry for word vomit.

You can't make up your own facts.

The fastest minivan on record is the Sienna V6 SE,
which has a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds.

BRZ has a 0-60 of 6.2 seconds.

BRZ has a faster 0-60 than every minivan on the road.
And it weighs half, so it will smoke any minivan in the turns, as well.

So, let's please dispense with this minivan nonsense already!
Minivans are not fast. Because data !

I have argued on your side of the minivan speed many times and I agree.
Still does not make the BRZ one of the "fastest" cars out there.

The issue here is these cars are in a category where consumers have models with more power in the price range.

I hate cliches, but for the price point Toyobaru felt they needed to hit in order to succeed you get light and nimble but not powerful. That is coming up some time Q1 2019!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I'm old, but I really do not get why "fast" is a thing here.

There are many faster cars out there. There are many slower cars out there. There are not very many itty bitty sports coupés out there. The twins are great value for money in the fast and the sticks-to-the-road departments. They also look good. They are stupendous in traffic. :giggle: They are fine daily drivers, space considering.

Is this forum not to celebrate and have fun with these cars? Perhaps OP needs to take his money to Porsche or Audi?

Yes. The answer is yes. I exclusively DD my 86. Coming from a '00 2.5 RS (with a whooping 165 hp), the 86 feels very fast. I don't have to push it very hard to get to highway speeds, and the fuel economy is great. Any faster and I would have to budget for monthly speeding tickets lol.

That article you linked was from 3 years ago...the fastest minivans now can hit 60 almost twice as fast as a BRZ.
