How will leaving the catalytic converter in place affect lag and/or the energy needed to spool up the turbo?

It will slow spool slightly. Its a small trade off to remain legal and keep the smell down.

If you don't want the compromise just buy a cat less header.

I think the way you are developing this is ingenious

Don, any thoughts on the Comp turbo? Oil less and water cooled. Just need to run coolant lines and the units are guaranteed five years. No oil scavenging. Not suggesting change, just asking about thoughts on the subject.

In Houston we have to worry about flooding (like today)! Would this then not be a good option for my location? I don't make a habbit of flying through deep puddles or especially flooded waters, but there are times it does have to occur, slowly.

I'm with you on this one. We've had way too much rain this week!

this is one of the things im concerned with. The location is way to low. If it was mounted on a truck then it would of been alright.

I would hope the airfilter wont be simply bolted to turbo inlet,

I would never run a turbo after a CAT, too often cat's degrade with turbo EGT's, Pressures, and A/F ratios, the chance to ingest a chunk of ceramic based catalyst is simply too high to make that a feasible option.

I do enjoy the thought of a no header required turbo and had considered placing my turbo there aswell,,, very smart from a business perspective, lets more people get in on the fun, and that's what this is all about right?

The new Subaru DIT engines have the turbo mounted low like that, although it is in front of the engine
