Sometimes, it's not so much the speed.
I recall, back-in-the-day, living in Danville, CA, it was a hot afternoon and I had driven after work from Richmond to my home in Danville. I was driving my 1970 MGB which was painted BRG and had a black interior (no A/C).... that puppy was hot on the inside so I was anxious to get out of it. So, when I rounded the final curve, I hit the garage door opener and zoomed up my steep, short driveway. When I pushed the hydraulic clutch in ...... NOTHING freaking happened ...... ![]() I slammed on the brakes and slid across my very slick, nicely painted garage floor and nearly didn't get stopped before I ran into the furnace....... ![]() THE END humfrz |

It's taking me longer to explain myself than it does to scribble on a notepad, especially while lazily watching tv.
Getting there.

I think I broke the Internet...
I called my local Toyota dealer yesterday on a lark to see how much the upgrade is for the map data on my 2014 Pioneer/Harman GPS module in my car. Turns out it is $170 for the activation code, and then it has to be installed by a technician. Great. So I did get the part number from him and decided to search the Internet to see if I could find it. In all of the thousands of times I've used Google to search things over the years this is the only time it just gave up and not returned anything.

All about the spacing. Cheapest I could find it in about 45 seconds of searching (you probably already found it as well) https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.c...r-86272hdd0700 Amusingly, it is $25 over list on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-OEM-...-/252591077780 Installed by technician... http://media.fixed-ops.com/Toy_Servi.../sb0005t13.pdf It looks like you get a request code from the unit, then have to input that into a Toyota system along with the VIN and activation code in order to generate a key to input on the unit to install the update. Seems a bit extreme for a nav update, but when you're charging $170 for something that mobile nav updates for free, I guess you have to prevent people from torrenting it somehow. |

That is pretty stupid expensive and complicated for something that a $99 separate GPS unit provides for free as you mention, or of course there is always Google Maps.
