Get in the habit of putting your foot on the clutch when decelerating quickly, or better yet, select an appropriate Gear for your speed, even when you're not accelerating.

5th gear at 10mph won't let even a Corvette accelerate. It's not the car, it's your technique that's your handicap there. As someone mentioned that's a good way to throw a rod through the block too.

I think you’re being a bit over dramatic, I’ve been driving MT cars for 30 years and never seen or heard what you are describing. The engine was not lugging or near stall so there’s not any danger.

Edit: I probably was not as low as 10 mph but was slower than anticipated because I was passing on the shoulder and needed to slow down more than planned to due to the fact the guy stopped instead of turned, i was already passing on the shoulder but was only planning to be partly on the shoulder. Might have been closer to 15 MPH to be honest.

Sure I was, didn't know how much experience you had with manuals. bending a rod is likely when lugging the motor too much though. From rumblings on this site this motor is pretty susceptible to it too, so I like to err on the safe side and keep the motor above 2500.

Good to know, I do not want to hurt the car.

I’ve put 40K miles on S2000 and another 200K on various other 4-cylinder MT cars.

Sorry to hijack the thread but #internet, was not so much me not knowing how to drive but a combination of me thinking what the other driver was going to do while needing to slow more than planned because of tight quarters, I had planned to slow down to 25-30 but midway into my pass had to slow down even more than planned.

My new motto is: when in doubt rev it out (or I’m probably in too high a gear).

No, sorry, still driver error. Accepting it might prompt you to learn how to avoid that situation in the future. Denying it will ensure that it happens again.

I'm not picking on you. I could be a much better driver and make mistakes all the time myself. The difference is that you made a mistake and said it's the car's fault and the other driver's fault, where I make a mistake and say, "Damn, I really fucked that up." Then I consider what I could have done differently and avoid the problem next time.

It makes no torque at low rpm. Do you really think they would sell a car that would bend rods just from lugging? Most people can't drive a manual for shit as it is. They'd be ass deep in warranty work.

He wasn't talking about an 86 or at least not a stock 86. Read it again.

Now, picture yourself on a KTM 450 Supermoto with a 110MPH top speed on some tight, twisty eastern southern IN road. 50-80 MPH 4 & 5th gear, hard on the gas, hard on the brakes.

Which would be more fun?
The hayabusa. I have owned two zx6rs and they were plenty fun no matter where I lived. I seriously doubt I would consider a bike under 600 ccs and a typical "sportbike." I'm actually considering a zx14 since I've gained weight and wouldn't mind being a little more upright.

I love how that little hint of where someone lives makes people prejudge your experience or driving habits.

I've judged you on a lot more than that. LOL

I have been judged in worse ways. I have ridden smaller bikes and motards and dirt bikes etc.... you figure out what works and what you like.

Just past the break in period (1000 mi) so I've been driving more in the upper rev range and actually think the car is adequate power/speed. I have owned a S2000 and that car is marginally quicker/more powerful but the difference is not crazy, I mean hardly any quicker seat of the pants feel.

You may find yourself wishing it had more oomph only now and then but 95% of the time it's got enough. The correct gear for the road speed and revs make all the difference.

I test drove a 2.0L turbo Cayman which has 300hp and (280TQ) peak from 1950-4500 rpm. So that car the power was always on tap, it was a PDK as well. To compare the two is night and day, the turbo Cayman is speedy quick but it was less involving to drive it was almost like the power was a non event, all power all the time. You could drive with the engine barely turning over and not be too far away from major power, that's not the case with the BRZ.

With the BRZ engine in the 5-7K rev range it has good power and down low in the 2500-5K range it's not quick but it's fine for normal everyday driving.

I like it’s short gearing since you only drop down a small bit each up shift.

Regarding the infamous torque dip, it’s there but not an issue imo, if there wasn’t so much jabber about the TQ dip I would’nt even think about it.

I can see the TQ dip thanks to the display on the new car, it doesn't feel much different when you are in the dip area.

Have to say that I love the car, gearbox, handling, steering, brakes and yes the engine too. I love the engine, it doesn't rev as high as the AP1 S2K but otherwise it feels similar.
