there are 2 types of wiring, one is wire to your batt where it continuous suck your batt, the other is wire to your ignition where it will shut off when the engine shuts off. and also, if you are using finevu cr300 or other cameras with powermagic, it basically stops power supply once it detects the batt's voltage drops below a certain limit. if your camera has motion detect functionality, you can also use it so as to not consume that much batt.
Perhaps this link may offer some information

Definitely doing this...

I wouldn't worry about getting it stolen. Mounted that high it's probably pretty hard to see unless you're looking specifically for something up that high. I have had a Valentine One (~$400) mounted up high in my cars for years and never had any problems. Although, it probably depends on where you live and whether or not you park in a garage at night.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, living in a nicer neighborhood we still have break-ins with cars parked in the driveway or at the curb. I would just install it so you can remove it easily and put it in your glove box or something after you leave your car.

I don't know exactly what you're looking for.

B+ = Battery connection (constant power)
ACC+ = power on when engine starts

ACC wire to Cigarjack fuse
B+ wire to like tail light, brake light fuse. even key is off, these lights turned on

I pulled the fuses last night and noticed that they don't extend. So I'll have to splice in.

So here is a wiring idea I got when I was continuously trying to tap my radar connector leads into the dome light:
The plug that connects the dome light to the wiring harness in the ceiling gets continuous power. Advantageous features include:
- Power delivered when the car is off and locked
- No power delivered when the car is off and unlocked (with the key fob)
- Power can be switched off with the dome light switch

Theoretically one could just tap that plug and have power to the dashcam which retains the parked recording feature. This way you wouldn't even need to get the Power Magic Pro (unless you still wanted the reboot feature).

I did utilize my dome light feeds to provide constant power for my dash cam which has a parking mode feature with a hard wire kit. What I found odd was the dome light connectors plug is fed via 3 wires. One is a constant 12+ with the other two being constant neg and switched neg. The integrated switch is switching the negative feeds.

Typically manufactures provide a good amount of gap between the amp draw of devices and the wire / fuse rating feeding it. Meaning there should be no issue with a dash cam adding too much draw for the dome light circuit and it's fuse. Especially so if you have replaced the OEM incandescent bulb with LED.
This is on a Scion so not certain if anything has changed with the newer versions

I have gone this route and I can say you still need some sort of low-voltage protection. That circuit will run your battery completely dry if you let it. That is the main advantage of the PMP. Most cameras have an operating voltage range that goes low enough to cause starting issues if you let it sit for 24hrs+
