Oh great. Just heard on the radio that the highway I take home is closed due to an accident and the film crew from Heavy Rescue 401 is on site filming. If they are filming then it means it is big enough to be interesting, they will be there for a while and traffic will be at a stand still even in the unaffected lanes. Now, my alternate route adds almost an hour anyway so I have to decide if I brave the traffic and hope it is flowing or take the known long way.

The problem is that everybody will be on the back roads doing 20 mph because they are lost the second they leave the main highway. Not like it would be just me tooling along.

The thing is that my side isn't closed it is just slow from people watching them film on the other side. If closed it would have been an easy call.

I made the right call and took the highway. TV crews were gone and sucker trucks were just cleaning up the ditch so it wasn't exciting enough to slow down my side. The other side was still at a standstill though and by how far it stretched those people should get by sometime Saturday.

This is why I have at least 3 alternate routes on roads small and out of the way enough that the GPS wouldn't think to send people there. It's fun trying beat Google's estimate.

Most of the land between home and work consists of large farms. To get a paved road that leads even basically in the right direction means having to drive quite a distance to the north or south. When you do get to paved roads running the right direction they run through about 14 billion small towns consisting of 8 houses and a feed mill. I don't have a lot of options that don't add an hour to the trip.
