There is zero reason to go more than 225 on these cars with stock power. A good 225 will have better performance than an OK 235 or 245 any day. If its an aesthetics thing then do whatever look that you like. I get that some people just want a certain look and no harm in that

Any reason why? Been seeing people say they’ve mounted 235-245 with no issues. Is it because of the potential of having to do a negative chamber with the 245?
It's been covered, but for daily driving only there's zero benefit to going wider than 225. Being 100% honest, there's no benefit to going wider than stock at all.

You'll get more grip from better tires in the stock width than from going wider. Wider will tramline worse, get worse fuel economy, and typically cost more.

Good inputs. Seems like 225 is the way to go then! Thanks for all the advice!

Actually, going with 7-7.5" wheels and 215's is the way to go with 17's. When you go with 225's, the wheel circumference is different and therefore your speedometer will be slightly off. If you go with 225/45, then the tire will be a little bigger. If you go with 225/40, then it will be smaller. You will not feel any difference between 225's and 215's. The most important thing is to spend your time and money getting a good tire. I'm going with a wheel with a 35 offset while the OEM spec is 48. That will put the wheels slightly farther out. I'm doing that totally for looks and not functionality. The wheels I'm choosing were designed for this platform as an option so I know they were tested by the manufacturer.

I was thinking about the speedo too. I think I’m going with the XXR 530 17x8.25 + 35, and putting some getting General G-Max AS-05. Been reading some reviews and all that jazz and the Generals seem to be decently priced and are good tires. Any thoughts?

There is one big plus to 225 though. 225/45/R17 is very common size and tires of that size are usually cheaper then stock size of 215/45/R17. Speedo error is BS, as actually most non ancient cars speedos lie. With slightly larger tires speedo will lie less , so that's not much of an issue. But what is not so good is slightly worse acceleration due changed overall gearing. But still, due cheaper price imho 225/45 still is competitive choice.

Listen, I pointed out the difference between 215's and 225's, but honestly, you can easily go with either one and I doubt the slight speedo difference will impact you greatly. I just wanted you to know there would be one. Someone pointed out the plethora of 225's available, and they are right. Either one would be a good choice. As to the General's, I don't have experience with that tire so I cannot comment. Perhaps someone else here can do that. That said, if you are still going with the 8.25 rims, I'd probably be more apt to go with the 225's as they would be a better fit.
